20 or so years ago, I was building a lot of Railroad tie walls in the area. Railroad ties have lots of grit and dull chains quickly. I bought some Carbide chains and found they cut just as well as regular chains but stayed sharp much longer. They aren't perfect, you can knock the carbide off if you hit a really hard, large rock. It depends a lot on who made the chain, and how well they made it. But if it's like mine was, and you are sawing dirty stuff, you will spend less time sharpening than with regular chain.
