I bought my first chainsaw in the early 1990's and it was a brand new off the showroom floor 272.
That just means it (3xx model) came out post 1991.
that didn't help did it.
I"m sure the experts will be along to tell you something useful, and welcome to Arboristsite. it's one of the better out there.

1996 is when the 371XP first came to North America. Fallers were able to pre-order them here starting in march of 96' and they picked them up
the first week in June.
The 371 was updated to the 372 around late '98/early '99.

I would simply say 1999.
The final IPL for the 371 is dated 1999-05 and the first one for the 372 is dated 1999-11. It also looks like the first "model year" was 2000 (other documents).
I think that's right. We started seeing the literature in the pipeline for the 372 around I would say August/September of '99 which is typical of a new model issue.

1999 372xp was my first saw.
I Own an early model 1999 372xp. It's the saw that made me a big husky fan. I Bought quite a few Husky's saw's since then, but
still even today It's still my favorite saw. Early models still had the unlimited ignition coil.
The saw has given me very few problems. In fact the only problem I ever had with it was Carb went
south on me a couple years back and that's when the dealer warned me about the effects of using Gas w/ethanol (E-10)
in it. Bought it for $639.00 brand new. Love it!
