A friend gave me a 20" bar which came off his Homelite 4520 saw which he thinks still runs but shortly after using it the plastic around the sprocket drive melted!
The bar still looks new-ish.
Is the bar of a decent build/quality or should I discard it as he's done with the rest of the saw?
Saw was purchased from a 'big box' 'home improvement' type store and was pretty cheap to buy.

That bar has the Oregon 'Intenz' system on it, where you adjust the chain tension on the bar, instead of using an adjuster on the saw. It should work with any saw that has a compatible mount, but might require some non-permanent modifications.

If it is in good shape it is comparable to replacement bars selling for $20 to $30, so someone could use it.
