Hello all. Jonsereds model K G
If this is in the wrong spot, apologies, and please move.
A mate turned up today with an older Jonsereds which I am not familiar with as a gift. It says Model K G, then again it could be KOG. serial no 101941 or 101911, not sure. Carb which does not have a manufacturer name that I can see is clearly marked HL 165A. and looks like it would have had a float, but someone changed their mind and had a round diaphragm on the bottom instead. Its a manual oil pump, which seems to still work, conventional on off switch, no operator presence safety lever, and some sort of slider button which does not as yet have an obvious explanation. Roller nose bar of about 24 ins with two large purposeful round holes in it perhaps 1in dia
The previous owner said apparently " it went ok till the starter spring broke, since when (perhaps 35 yrs) it has sat at the back of the shed"
I could use any accurate info available as it looks to me as though with minimal tic it would run, or at least fire.
I have not had time for a photo, and don't know how to post one.
Could the carb be a tillotson?
All my saws run on synthetic oil at 50/1, I doubt this was thought of when this last ran, would it be best to try it on mineral at 20/1 ?
Anything else of interest would be much appreciated.

Most of the guys i know run synthetic 2 stroke mix oil at 40:1 in the old saws with no issues. Some go 50:1 some go richer. The older saws generally run at much lower RPM's than the newer saws.
No need to go back to the motor oil rich mix
 
Well now I have it. it's an XG in red and silver with tilotson HL series carb. Thanks for that. Regarding a carb kit, I see that HL kits are available but I have not seen one that covers the 165A (not on list anyway). Is the HL series all the same kit, or are there subdivisions for diff numbers ?
If it is reed valve induction, and bearing in mind it may have spent a long time sitting in Welsh air (high humidity, warm, sometimes salty), is this valve likely to disintegrate upon start up, or are they fairly robust ?

I read with interest a page or two back that 621 saws in good order might be worth $400 on a good day in the right place where poster lives ! well, I have five, last one I bought on e bay uk for I think £35 including carriage around six months ago. I would say it might have done less than an hours work from new. It's so good, I choose to use any of the others for day to day work on bigger stuff, mainly ash which cuts a treat. I recently purchased a stihl 026 in a bid to cut the weight, (its fans say it has a similar capability)....well, by comparison only, its a joke...it is however lighter but does not cut with quite the same authority, not even close. The man that designed the carb attachment arrangement on it should get some sort of medal for ingenuity, so effectively simple making any work here a breeze. Obviously, he had seen plenty of past efforts.

You're basically now appealing to collectors so appearance and write up are everything. Guys like me that were buying them for work are fast disappearing at these prices.....especially for unsupported saws and NLA saw parts.

Now that guy with the 621 presently on eBay I posted here may not get his $300 or so because he has absolutely no write up and some bad feedback.

Well thanks to all for the assistance, particularly the list of different tillotson hl carb requirements. Any more will be gratefully received. Well, the usual first. No spark, points removed and now perfect, fresh wire to coil. Starter spring remanufacture and reinstall, choke pull rod re fit, plug out looked ok, shot or two of motor oil (synthetic) through plug hole . half fill tank with 50-1, slop a teaspoon full into carb inlet. two pulls and its away. picks up fine, ticks over fine and restarts fine. Even the stop switch works. Unknown slider is to hold throttle part open to start.
Question. sprocket cover is missing two (steel ?) bushes to prevent bar nuts crushing it. outside end , immediately under nuts is present however.
Can any one give me a description in detail of these, why are they two part ? Presumably bar end of bushes would have been pinned up against bar, nut end up against nut end bush, or did they have a slimmer bit to fit bar slot around bar studs. It is entirely possible that I have the wrong bar, but it looks right.

Any of this look familiar? Trying to identify what the application is; none of the parts fit any of my saws. Clutch cover is too small for my 62/621's.

It's all part of a package deal that I got that had some parts that I needed.

Some of it's 451E. For sure is the air filters, rubber mounts, carb cover on bottom right of pic and filter cover on left.

Disappeared into the hills for a couple tanks of fuel after work today. 630's make things seem effortless. I enjoy these saws each time I run them. Moderate RPM. Maximum chomp. No need for a screamer. 35th birthday for this one.

Provincial fire/forest access ban rescinded this past week. Nice to see some of my honey holes again. Forest was off limits for the bulk of the summer. Hopefully other folks are enjoying some cutting time as fall approaches.
