EDIT - did a bit of research on chain brake vs. no chain brake since all of my experience (started with saws in the late 70's) has been with saws that had a brake. 041 gear drive should be on your list.

Interesting. Did a quick search -- 041's seem to be quite plentiful and inexpensive, but didn't see any complete 041g's. Decent thread on gear drive saws here - http://www.arboristsite.com/community/threads/gear-drive-saws.150740/ - I've never had or used one so had to do a bit of research.

Not everyday use, that's for sure. I'm active duty military, so I have a day job. Will be retiring soon, however, and expect to end up with some property out in the sticks a bit. Also interested in getting into milling.

I'm not familiar with chainsaw milling (we have an LT40 Woodmizer), but for cutting trees, I have an 036, 2 360s and a 460. Just bought a 361 too.

Good luck finding a 041G! They don't show up that often. I consider myself very fortunate to own one. This one has been fully restored, complete with a powder-coated finish.

Sounds like most folks use larger saws (075/076, 084/089, or 070/090) if they can. No need for a brake. My 070 should be a good milling saw.
