I've acquired another 045 Super, 54mm. It's in excellent condition. I'm cleaning this one up and leaving the original finish. Unfortunately, the piston is toast. Lean seizure on the exhuast side. The cylinder should clean up very nicely. Finding a piston for these can be a little difficult. I checked Amicks for a Meteor and the largest they have is a 52mm. I found one on eBay but it has to ship from Greece. Anyone have a line on a good 54mm 045/056 piston?

I'll be posting pics as soon as I get it back together. I got it this afternoon and it's all cleaned up and ready to go back together as soon as I source a piston. I'll likely scavange the P&C off my other one since I have some work to do to it and then put this P&C on it. So pics may be coming this weekend.

BTW, it has good spark and not one crack or stripped out hole.

It sounds like a promising saw!:greenchainsaw:

I bought it hoping for a saw with a nice original finish. It appeared to be but couldn't to tell for sure from the low res pics. I'm not disappointed. I spent several hours last night cleaning it up. Tonight I'll rob the OEM P&C from my other 045 Super and get this one put together. This one's my keeper. Once done I'll get some pics of it. My other one will get the new piston and the jug from this saw and will be sold. It's a super nice saw, but I wanted one with a nice original finish.

Looks like Greek to me:dizzy: Can you tell if it's OEM or not and what the cost is with shipping? Maybe he won't even ship to the USA.
try this - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....m=350050051460&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=022
same one but looked at through uk ebay. He ships to US, I'd assume it's a non OEM at that price (£13!). He takes paypal at least (rare for german ebay) He says:

New piston suitably power saw Stihl 056 A new piston is auctioneered suitably power saw Stihl 056 Technical data: * Diameter 54 mm Scope of supply: * Piston 54 mm * 2 piston rings * 1 gudgeon pin * 2 tie-clips PICTURES SYMBOLIC SOUND DESCRIPTION IS SUPPLIED Many further popular articles in my shop otherwise inquire. Calculation with proven VAT is attached to the commodity always!!!!!! Further possibly needed accessories can be inquired after the auction.
Not much of an improvement over Greek I guess...

Most if the cheap pistons sold in europe (Greece) are Golf or AIP. You may as well buy them here.

I found a Meteor piston our of Greece. It's $38 + shipping and is in stock. I called Amicks and they can't get any brand for me. I don't believe Baileys sells Meteor and from what I hear, I'd rather have Meteor. Believe it or not, I can wait a week or two:clap:

I'd be happy to use a nice used one if anyone has one. 54mm only.

She's all done and running like a top. As I mentioned earlier, I took the OEM P&C from my other 045 Super and put it on this one. Starts great, idles nice and smooth, great throttle response and spools up like a top.

Nothing cleans a saw like the dishwasher. However, I learned the hard way the it's very had on the finish and severely fades it. That's not an issue if you're going to paint the saw. However, in this case I wanted to keep the original finish. That was the whole point for getting this saw. I spent several hours last night with some generic purple cleaner, a brush, and the garden hose. The finish was still dull, so I polished it with white polishing compound. It looks really good.

I debated on whether or not to use the original screws or to put it back together with the new Torx screws the other one had been assembled with. I decided to go with function and used the Torx. I also put an Elastostart on it. The larger dual dawgs, muffler, and full-wrap bar came from the other saw as well. Overything else is original. It's just as clean inside as what you see on the outside.

Unless you are using harsh dishwashing soap, it only dulls the finish it by removing the layer of old oil and/oxidized paint/powder coat etc.. Purple cleaner is just as hard, maybe harder, on weathered finish.

I don't know what kind of detergent Lisa buys, but is WAY harsher on the finish than this purple cleaner I've got. And I'm using it straight. The dishwasher turns the orange almost white. You have to use a rag damp with lacquer thinner and wipe it down to get the color back. Then you have to polish out the rag marks. It also causes corrosion on any plated steel parts.

It works pretty well with no detergent. Just the heat and constant spraying cleans pretty much everything. I've cleaned engine parts in ours.
