I bought 2 of the EU2000 Honda generators for work, since when I use them I have to listen to them for for 8 hours a day in the field. I told no boss either buy me these or I'll shoot my Briggs. Awesome for my application, but personally I wouldn't pay $1000 for a 2000 watt generator. Honda definitely could build a graet chainsaw, but I guess if they start product development at home, there is probably not much demand for a chainsaw in Japan anymore. Redmax is also Japanese. As a side note, I was at a Husqvarna dealer today looking at saws. While talking, he said Stihl was preparing to buy Redmax in order to rob their emission technology to meet EPA regs when Husqvarna swooped in and bought them. Anybody know if this is true?

I recently bought a Honda generator from a local dealer after witnessing a elderly man at a flea market using it. It was sooo quiet and smooth rather then the harley davidson decibals I am used to from other generators.

All I got to say is wow! Starts on the first pull.
Its only a fraction of the noise of American generators, more compact and hell of a lot more reliable and efficient.

After years and years of suffering through crappy engines on lawn mowers, generators, leaf blowers I finally feel liberated. (my property was large)

However, I cannt seem to find a Honda chain saw or any Japanese chainsaws. Where can I buy a Japanese saw?

I am especially interested in a small, gas operated one thats made in Japan if possible rather then just a brand name sticker thats made in America or Mexico.

Mr engineer, Being that our economy is so messed up right now, you might want to think of supporting AMERICAN JOBS!! Buy a Stihl Chainsaw most are made in Virginia Beach VA. USA + you might offend people talking about JAP saws on this site...:chainsaw:

And you think Honda dont make things in the US the same way Stihl do?
Honda and Nissan etc make stuff in the UK i bet the US is the same!

Or are you talking about the redmax Husky's?

I asked the guy who owns the Husky dealer in town what he felt about the Red Max deal, the other day when I was in his shop.
He said that the new Red Max made Husky blowers, and hedge clippers are far and away better than the junk Husky was making before.
The clippers and blowers were so bad he picked up Shindaiwa, just to have a decent blowers and hedge clippers line.
He said now he can sell a customer a Husqvarna handheld blower, or hedge clipper and they're getting a product with the same quality of the rest of the Husky handheld line.

I'll look into shindaiwa.
I am looking forward to 2010 and seeing if Honda will put their engine on a chainsaw!

I'll also take a look at Baily and see if they have those other Japanese brand names. I prefer to deal with small family busineesses then large chain stores.

Yeah, I know, the Japanese import hand power tools/generators are more expensive then corporate american brands... from my experience its worth it. Its not just the name we are paying for (lets say like european perfumes and handbags our girl friends like to buy) but great design and quality manufacturing. They make the best stuff.

Unfortunately I am seeing Japan presured by social economics. Most Japanese companies have moved their factories to the U.S., China and Mexico. "Redistrubing" the wealth. Which is all good, but I am noticing the U.S. made ones at least are using inferior quality metal and plastic then the originals.

Yeah, they make great bikes ! My friend has a CBR, he can go almost 200mph on that thing. My parents both have a Honda, a Civic and a Accord, 13 and 16 years old! (we call them our work cars, because no matter what other fancy cars they have they always use them to go to work) I am personally a Lexus man, but thats just my preference, nothing against Honda. We used to be die hard Ford/Lincoln buyers until Lincoln refused to refund us on a lemon MKS, it was in the shop every month and thats not including the factory recalls. Shhesh. After buying 5 of their vehicles it was enough. At least volkswagon was honorable/honest enough to refund our money after the engine caught on fire the first month.

Funny story though, the mechanic we used at Ford/Lincoln was a wizard. Incredibly skilled, super fast. Best mechanic I have ever seen. After our 8th visit to the garage with the MKS he was even nice enough to sneak in parts from other manufacturers that were compatible with the mks. We hated to lose him as our mechanic as we gave away all our Lincolns, but then again we rarely have a need for a mechanic anymore.

Looking forword to Honda's Green technology Hydrogen fuel cell hand held power tools in the future.

Sounds like someone had fish heads and rice for lunch.....

good engines

Briggs and Stratton hands down. When you consider the virtual non exsistance of maintenance that most people offer there lawn equipment, B&S outlasts almost every other engine out there. Plus parts are everywhere and resonable. I rented a trencher once with a Honda on it, PITA Got a Japanese chainsaw, great except for the .325 chain. Shinny 416. Run rings around a Honda any day but it isn't a Homelite either.

Echos are made in the USA, its just that the powerheads are made in Japan and the company is owned by the Japanese.
Japan isnt the reason our economy is so messed up, Japanese companies actually do a lot of manufacturing in the U.S. because they like to invest in countries where they sell their products.
You can blame countries like China, Korea and India for the mess we are currently in.
As far as owning Japanese products, Im with ya on that one. Ive got a Honda trimmer (nice but its heavy), Honda walkbehind mower and an Echo leafblower. Im very happy with all of them. I will most likely have a Kubota lawn tractor when its time to replace my Craftsman, when something happens to my Stihl 021 I will most likely replace it with a 35cc-40cc Echo chainsaw and when something happens to my Craftsman snowblower it will be replaced by a Honda. Honda stuff is expensive, but IMO its money well-spent.
IMO, the level of craftsmanship is just so much better with Japanese stuff. Mostly that has to do with the cultural values of the Japanese, in that when they build something, they take a lot of pride in building a quality product and in making it right the first time. If something is bad, not only does it bring shame upon the people who made that product, it also brings shame upon their whole family; so the Japanese are pretty good about building it right the first time and making the best possible product.
Thats not to say that Japanese stuff is perfect, but its usually pretty darned good.
