Y'all are just sick if you don't add a dollop of castor oil to the mix.

There's nothing like the smell of REAL old fashioned eye burnin' Two stroke smoke.:eek:uttahere:

No wait.... that crap fouled plugs, clogged mufflers and killed mice in California. Never mind.

Huskys new blend seems to run just fine, even if it smells newfangled.

The worst thing with the less nasty more modern oils is that you hardly smell like the oil when you're done cuttin. It makes me feel like I didn't get any work done without having fumes rolling off of me at the end of the day...

I remember the good old days of eating Castor fumes instead of lunch...and kept right on cuttin' :chainsawguy:

And yes, I do frequent the husky dealers. Our local Stihl dealers are about as bad as it gets with the exception of one and he is quite a drive to get to.

and as for the cracks about me "frequenting" the husky dealer, let me explain something to you. My local husky dealer has a chipper knife sharpening machine, sells a full line of hand tools (ie rakes shovels), stocks some basic climbing hardware, and so on. my visits to the saw shop are not necessarily because my brand is lousy.

Have used Stihls premium and Castrol super 2 stroke [same oil] since 1974,funny when Stihl premium started selling around here around 1982 the saw dealers had to sell both Castrol and Stihl because alot of loggers were scared to use the new Stihl Premium even though it had the Castrol logo on the back of the bottle. I swear by this oil. But would like to try the Ultra seeing it might be better for the lungs. Have been using the Husky XP syn blend in my 372 ,smells a little different.

Who give a rip about how it smells...

The new synthetic oils are where it's at mang!

Gary

I care about less smoke and smell. It is my main reason for no longer running dino. (like milling a big log on a hot windless day.)

After running Ultra or 2T, I recently ran some XP again and remembered why I didn't run dino anymore (smoke and smell). (And XP burns a little less smelly than Stihl orange.)

After I finished up the day I poured the remainder into my truck and mixed up fresh synthetic.

Somehow with synthetic, the smell doesn't stick to your hair and clothes like dino. But for you guys that love the 2 stroke smell, don't worry there is still plenty of fragrance. It's just more pleasant.:)

Some might ask what do you have left once you have quieter saws, less smelly oil, and PPE. I would answer you still have strong saws and sharp chains cutting wood - which is actually the fun part. Can you imagine if tablesaws, bandsaws, circular saws, etc were as loud and stinky as chainsaws?

Remember the old Optimol 100:1 in the little plastic bags. The local dealer had old stock of that stuff laying on his shelf for years, you could see the stain of the leached out solvents through the bags on the shelf. My neighbor bought it up at a yard sale price and it wasn't long he had his saw turn down.

A fond memory of mine....

A lot of older single engine aircraft have a start-primer that would leak a very small amount in the cockpit, it's smell is a fond memory for a lot of pilots.

Amen, the smell of av-gas burned or other wise is great. Used to think burned jet fuel was a gread smell, no longer av gas is it.

Back when I used to fly the mail run up into Yreka from the Bay area are great memories. Taxing out at Redding on a spring morning the side window open...Ahhh good times. No money but was big time fun.

As far as two stoke oil aren't there only like 2 or 3 places that make the stuff it is just different labels????

I know of one city park dept that uses OPTI in all their chainsaws and has for bunches of years with no problems. But the stuff scares me and no way I would run it in one of my saws.

LOL...I'm glad YOU liked it. The Stearman used to drip gas down your right leg. Between that and the leaks around the drain in the center section tank you didn't do any smoking while you were warming up.

Jeez. Those of us that fly the modern airplanes (ya know, the 1963-vintage) get worried when we smell Avgas...

You mean yours aren't???

Stihl Ultra!!

I could be wrong, and even if I'm right it will set a bunch of guys off but..........I think that Stihl Ultra has a Jaso rating of only FB, which means it's fine for the 4-mix trimmers and maybe a Lawn Boy mower, but is not rated for a high RPM chain saw. Doesn't their blended oil have a higher rating than the Ultra?

Incoming...........................

The bottle I have in front of me does say 'Jaso FB' API TC/TC+ ratings, but it does say on the front "Fully synthetic engine oil for chain saws and power tools" "Biodegradable" and "Contains fuel stabilizers".

Well first off, my dad has sworn by the Husky oil for years and that's all he'll ever use. When I bought my Husky 137 it came with a small black bottle of Husky XP 2-cycle oil. It is still in the top of my chainsaw box where it probably remain forever, not that I have anything against it. I have used Valvoine and now use Phillips 66 Injex 2-cycle oil with no problems so far. I figure for what you spend on 2-3 little bottles of oil you can get a quart of Injex for equal or cheaper value. The example I like to use for subjects like this is the part in the movie "Tommy Boy" where he talks about "the guarantee on the box", use what ever you feel like using. But here's an idea for someone: what maker of BAR & CHAIN LUBE you prefer!

Husqvarna: 137, 61 (in pieces-yet), L65, 288xp, 2100CD
McCulloch: Mac 2-10 (won't stay running-rainy day project)
