{hand up in back of class} ME!

I didn't get the stove for my shop until late in the year. Last winter was a punt, so i thought 3-4 cords would do it this year....not. Right now i am burning the stack that was designated for the summer fire pit(at least it's seasoned).
13 this morn, single digits tonight. It is supposed to warm up for the weekend, so out come the chaps, ears & eyes for some cuttin!
Hopefully i won't get caught with my britches down next winter :bang:

Mine is very low, I have already burnt what I burnt all of last winter. Fortunately I found a cord of seasoned ash that SHOULD see me through to spring. I too am getting busy collecting for next year.

I'm still selling

Lots of wood here. I've just filled the woodshed again last week and there's plenty of seasoned wood split and stacked outside. It's been a good year for getting wood.

Ready to burn

My main pile by the house that's under a tarp would have run out but I cut standing deads all January and am in pretty good shape right now. I dropped a 40 ft tall 10 in at the base eastern hophornbeam the other day, boy does that kick out some heat! It's bein saved for before I go to bed because it burns so long and hot. I sell a few truckloads a month to a guy, have plenty of wood for him too. I've been dropping any sick or twisted trees I come across in the woods for next winter, got at least a cord split up laying around in the woods waiting till the snow melts and I can get the atv back there.

doing pretty well here, too. I think I'm using less wood this winter than last. For one thing, the house is better insulated this year. And, I'm not splitting as much; most stuff just gets whacked in half and I put in a couple of heavy oak chunks in there in the morning, a couple in the evening.

Also I've been burning a lot of poplar. A friend dumped a dumptruck load of it at our place last summer and we've got lots of it. It seems to do just fine. I burn more of it than the oak and locust (it burns faster), but a load will last over night or while I'm away at work and that's all that matters :)

I should be fine for this year also. I have 2 cords of seasoned wood in the barn and I have started cutting and splitting for next year. It does help that we have had a pretty mild winter this year in Colorado. Denver will be close to 70 today and tomorrow.

I was in this position last year. Come about Christmas I started thinking the supply was going to be insufficient. Wound up buying half a cord of ash. Used half of it, so I would have been short otherwise.

Not so this year. Went nuts gathering and will have a significant surplus.

Yeah, it's pretty common to get some warm days during the winter here in Colorado--along with 300 days of sunshine. Life is good!

I'm getting a little nervous. I stopped selling in November but had a few of my customers call back for another order and I hate to say no and have them go elsewhere. I've been adding some of the stuff I cut and split in Septmeber to the really dry stuff and I think I can make it as long as we don't get another month long deep freeze.

My OWB sure has burned a lot of wood, but I should have enough to see me through the end of winter and into warmer weather. I keep replenishing the wood shed, but I just don't have the space in my yard to stockpile far in advance.

mine is looking like a little ethiopen kid but i can still get hickory at the mill we will be allright.i also just met with a logger i know thats working in my area hes going to dump 2 loads tommorow will get me a good jump on next years.

Hey WVwoodsman

after you get all your wood cut for the year..do you still have grass to mow...to me and most of us C.A.D. folks around here that is a problem. I either stand on wood or sawdust in my yard. I really have no need for this wood..but I bought wood 2 years ago...and I think I would have rather paid the gasman. either way bend over. I love burning wood. I can have it at any temp and still be smiling. Good luck to everyone for next year.. I am already ready. all hard maple and oak..plus what ash and red maple left over from this year.. woohooo..for once in my life..I am ahead

I'm burning last years wood still. I have more than two winters worth cut and stacked. Got another whole winter season's worth of wood stacked in various places on my various friends farms. I could quit splitting for the next two years and be ok.....but we all know that ain't gonna happen.

I recently fattened mine up with almost 4 cords, which is all slated for next year's pile. As of today I should have a wee bit left over for 2010/2011, but I plan to have at least that year taken care of by the end of March when the roads start to get too soft.

Oh yeah, I have a cord of elm that was sitting all by itself in the field, but my Fiskars Super Splitter arrived in the mail today so that will add another cord to the pile (and pretty quickly too - that Fiskars eats up elm!).
