id predict it heavier than the 361 since it balances better. or the handle is reworked and mounted difrent on the saw like farther forward causeing it balance better. ...

:agree2:

Also, that 362 most likely was a well run in demonstator, while the 361 most likely was NIB........:popcorn::popcorn::givebeer:

Either way I have to see it to believe it. 5hp 12lbs with a husky filtration system. If it's durable and priced with the current 361 it should put a serious dent in all manufactures sales as well as set the bar for all R&D in the future.

I do not know about Stihl, but when poulan was first selling the 3400 my local dealer had one of their prototype saws as a demo. He sold a lot of 3400 saws because his demo saw was very strong. One day a customer brought his 3400 back and said it was not as strong as the demo saw so my dealer looked at the demo saw and found Poulan had fitted a 4200 top end to it. Could be a similar case here. If it is not production run then it is custom built and who knows what has been done it it.

I am very leery about Stihl strato saws. I've run a couple of Huskys, and liked them, but Stihls just seem less finicky and easier to work on (maybe it's just me?) and I'd hate to see them lose that edge. However, if these new designs really do prove to be superior, then count me in.

The manufacturer's weight seem to always be under true weight.

I know they only list power head weight but still...

My 361 for example was 15 lbs with a 20 inch bar and change. Fill the tanks and you have 17 lbs.

Same with the 7900 17 lbs with a 20 inch bar and chain. Full tanks, 19 lbs.

I guess I ought to weigh the 20 inch bar and chain.

They can only go on power head only weights cuz some moron will put a 12 in bar on it while another moron will fit a 36 in bar on the same saw. So the only variables should be PHO wet or dry.

PHO is is only way to compare saw weights.

the 7900 is pretty close to its stated weight. i put mine on the scale saturday and it was 13.8lbs with about a 1/3 tank of gas and oil.

I have watched a new Husqvarna that are going to replace a saw in sort of the same displacement class and it did also smoke that saw and both had many hours behind the throttle, but i have little hopes that the production version will be as hot as the demo ,,, I really hope that Stihl let the demo saw power stay in the production saw ,,,

I believe (hope) the cc advantage of the new vs. the old is larger on the new Husky, that supposedly is repacing the 357xp...........:)

I talked to a high volume dealer around here a couple months ago about the ms362. He said he has been running a prototype for almost 2 years and he was less than impressed. He said "it's cold blooded like the 441", (I don't think the 441 is cold blooded). He said "If you want a good 60cc saw, you better get a 361 while you still can". I'm sure he was just trying to get me to buy a 361, but I have no use for a 60cc saw right now anyway.

The worst part is that he said "there are no plans in the foreseable future for a 661 or a 261". He claimed that he knows about all new saws at least 2 years in advance and that he has heard nothing about them.

Also, my prediction for the next strato stihls, after the 362, are the farm boss saws 290/310/390.
