I just got a 346xp today and don't know if it has a cat muffler or not.I can't wait to try it but I just ordered a new bar and some better chain and I don't want to use the stock bar and chain.
It doesn't have a green gas cap.Does this mean I have a non-cat muffler ?

If the gas cap is gray and it doesn't say "E-tech" (in small print) on the rewind side label, it most likely has a non-cat muffler.

Congrats anyway! :)

WOOOHOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:clap::clap::clap:

Another one comes into the light! LOL!!!

Sounds like ya got a Non-cat.

Give cuttinScott a holler and see if he has another GB pro top bar and a loop of LP for ya. Bailys chain runs better IMO but then unless ya cut the stuff I do(Most folks don't cut trees on a beach;)) , Nikko and the guys love the LP.

Congrats on the new 346!

Stay safe!

Here is a picture. It's a little small but I'll work on my computer skills.
I need a 12 year old to teach me this stuff.

Can you explain the low profile chain you refer to for this 346 xp? Sorry if I sound dense. I have some cheap Poulans that have low profile chains. Are the ones you speak of the same as it? I am going to purchase a 346 xp for limbing and I want a shorter bar...14 inch...and was wondering if I could have the sprocket replaced with a 3/8 low profile chain. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Woodcutteranon,

I am referring to Oregon LP/LPX chain. It's a std. .325 chain.

No need for the Low pro chains on the 346, as they have plenty of grunt to pull full sized cutters.

low pro chains cutters have less drag, because they take a shallower bite, which allows saws with less grunt to maintain optimum RPM.

The 346 will pull full 3/8 or .325 all day long on a 16" bar so don't limit yourself with having to buy oddball chain.;)

I just farted around with a .325 Narrow kerf set up and hated it.
No advantage, and the bar is floppity/twisty enough to make me wonder what I was thinking.

lol!!! I gotta find out stuff the hard way it seems.:D

I'm jealous!

ah man,I'm jealous.
i went to a husky dealer today for another 28" chain for my 372.
been wanting a 346xp for awhile now,
so i went to the counter and said, give me a good deal on that 346 and I'll walk out with it.
he said let me take a look to see what "he" can do.(meaning the owner i take it-though i have a feeling "he" was "he" lol)
and he said,$499 (the exact sticker price on the saw on the shelf)with an additional chain is what "he's" been doing.
i said, well just the chain today i guess and walked out.
guess they didn't want to sell a 346xp today.
I'll be calling the store where i got my 372xpw (where he treated me good) tomorrow and see what he can do.
the 136(homeowner low powered re badged poulan) and 039 (heavy homeowner slug imo) for small stuff just ain't what i need lol.they got me by for long enough now.
congrats on a nice saw!!!
I'll have one soon enough as well I'm sure.

Love mine. It woke up alot over the first 10 tanks, especially the first three.
What are you running in it? I will be running 91 octane 40/1 with that Klotz 50 mix in mine.I just started using the Klotz and everyone was right about the smell, don't know if I like the smel or not yet.

Woody,

Why 40:1 ?

Simplifying the mix for a gaggle of saws, or just not trusting the Klotz yet?

I simplified(Got lazy and ticked off at all the fussing) a few years back.
Everything runs on Mid-grade 89 and Husky XP/ Stihl Ultra and is tuned for it.
If that ain't good enough, then they get sold.
No room in the Barn for uppity 2 strokes.
Even the Craftsman Mower runs on it occaisionally LOL!!

Stay safe!

I run Mobil 2T because it is so unstinky. When I run out, I'll run Ultra which I already run when I want a mix with a stabilizer.

Thats what I am running in my Snellerized 359,so why not run it in everything.

those are good signs that is a non cat.

to be sure look at the top of the muffler for a part number.if the letters "C A T"

can't be found in that order, you don't have a catalytic muffler.
