Been alot of talk about bad fuel ruining 5100 saws. Few really know what a case of bad fuel looks like. Here's a case of extra bad fuel in a BR400 Stihl blower. It has been running steady this year on fuel 2 years old. It finally got to the point it would not start anymore. The fuel that remained in the tank when it came in was so foul and nasty looking it looked more like dark muddy water than fuel mix.

I'm glad you've got some picture proof. I know its a problem and I tell people about it all the time. Not only on here, but my friends and family as well. Many still think its a bunch of BS. The fuel used in that engine is OLD, but once it seperates it doesn't matter when it seperated or how old it is. Stabalizers only do so much. Keep fresh mix, toss the old junk!

Yup. There is no damage really to the engine other than the stuck rings. On a chainsaw turning much higher rpm's the engine would be toast. One point I will say though, thats 2 year old fuel in that blower as told to me by the owner. Old fuel will still run a 2 cycle engine even if its up to two years old. Many find that hard to beleive but theres the proof and the results of it.

Good stuff, any pictures of the cylinder?

Didn't bother with taking pics of that. I looked it over. No scoring on the piston or cylinder. The ports in the cylinder and the top of it on the inside look just like that piston. A can of Gunk and a new gasket and that blower will live to blow many more fall seasons..

you know hes gonna go home and put the same gas back in it. Probably had 3 bottles of mix in it as well.

Oh no he's not. He decided to say to hell with that blower and get a new one. Most folks will not pay to get anything repaired nowdays, they rather buy new and go on. I guess I'm lucky to be lving in the richest county in the nation. Cats around here, fix it hell, give me a new one. I say okkkkkkkkkk.
