I have a dilemma. I have an 044 (10mm) builder with good bearings, case is decent, cylinder is good, tank is nice.
Its missing a piston, wrist pin bearing, clutch bearing, air filter, carb, and a few other minor details. Plastic is ugly on this saw.
I just today got an incomplete 046 parts saw that needs bearings, piston, spark plug thread repair on the cylinder, tank is ugly (MS460 tank). It has a carb.
It seems at first a no brainer to fix the 044, but I will have to use the clutch, starter assembly, coil and wiring, carb, muffler off the 046. That essentially makes the 046 not worth squat. I wanted to put a BB kit on the 044, but Im not replacing a good 10mm crank, so i would just order an OEM piston kit.
I have been wanting 2 saws I havent yet owned, one is an 038 Mag, the other is an 046/460. Thats why I was hoping to build the 046, but its rougher than I thought.
Have at it, tell me what you think.
