Magnesium can be welded, says my welder friend- he use to work in the nuclear power plants welding.
So I trust him

I worked on a 288 today that had been welded on, it wasnt pretty on the backside, but looks like it will hold

Nice job on the resto of the 1050. I think Mine will stay yellow/orange.

You re rite it can be welded---Brazing is cleaner and stronger---Half my town works at a nuke.plant---I no 18 of the welders around hear and only 5 of then will braze mag.also I'm a welder but I cant braze mag.or weld it

I'd kinda wondered about that. You don't hear much about magnesium welding or brazing. I can weld aluminum but mags a different animal, it seems to want to catch on fire. Probably requires special equipment which I couldn't afford or have room for.

Im not sure what kind of equipment, he just told me he could weld a case.

He welded the exhaust port up on my 394, then I had to get it machined flat and slotted for the muffler bolts. So I truse him with anything, seeing the cylinder isnt warped.

On topic, I hope to get a carb kit in the original EZ and get it going. I was planning on a resto, but I would rather use it and not worry about scratchin it.

I think that's the way to go..I prettied up a Homelite XL12 and don't want to get it dirty so it sits with nothing to do. I've got a few others that I'm not gonna make that mistake with. Chainsaws are tools and are meant to be used. I probably won't ever paint another chainsaw..

I agree on the painting. It was alot of work to do it. It looks better than it did before but now I don't want to use it. I think I'm going to JB weld a piece in there to fill the gap so the wrap can tighten up.

770G eating a seasoned Alder round. First time this saw has seen wood for a looooooong time. She did okay... need to tune the carb a bit, but for it's maiden cut since being brought back from the dead... it did great!

Thanks TS! I just couldn't resist. That a 990G? Nice lookin' Homelite. I really dig that pic. Your #####cat's showing "absolute contentment".............rubbin' the head on the saw's rear handle....

I was pretty happy when I snagged it as a 990G, but realized the top cover says 990G, but the side cover and ID plate says 909G!! Still a cool looking saw that just needs the fuel system gone thru!

I'd have been disapointed too........especialy if I'd have paid near 'the limit' of what I was willing to spend on a 990G. Still.................I certainly wouldn't "kick 'er out of bed for eating crackers" if you know what I mean. I realy dig the big Homelites.....
