That has been my baby for the past 4 years. I bought it in pretty rough shape and have been slowly rebuilding her. Its a 2 hour drive from my home to the trailhead and then a 8 1/2 mile atv or snowmachine ride in to get there. Cant get a truck back there. She sits on 5 acres and borders a very productive salmon stream. And where there are lots of salmon there are even more black and grizzly bears! And we are 1/4 mile upstream of the Talkeetna river and 3/4's of a mile downstream of a very large, deep lake with burbot, lake trout, rainbows and whitefish!
This was our first weekend in the cabin after we bought it. It has a 8' porch that wraps around 3 sides of it but the roof on the long side collapsed under a snow load several years before we bought it. You can tell by the pictures that the previous owner hadnt been in there in quite a while. It was a shame such a nice place was going to rot!
Our first winter in it we didnt get to do much to the outside but worked on the inside.
Rebuilding the porch roof and getting rid of those cedar shingles was the first order of business. My parents came up for a visit from Indiana and helped with the task. Took 6 days start to finish!
That was the best thing we ever did. The old roof was starting to leak and we caught it just in time! Now I wont have to worry about it as long as I am on the planet!
