So i need one saw , for the firewood , that will do ewerything , i dont like to carry two machines one big and one little , rather one in the midle .

Personally 440 is better feeling in hands and 460 is stronger but i can not decide so i have a question :

Is the 460 a little too heavy for the limbing ?
Is the 440 gonna be powerfull enough ?

oh yeah i forrgot a friend tells me for the 460 is too much 6 bhp for 76.5 cc and this saw is over after 2 years of real work - is this the truth ?

Have the best of both, put a 460 cylinder on the 440 and grin. it takes a bit of work to get things lined up and fitting but nothing major.

A friend told you pretty much that a 460 is junk? LMAO! It's one of the best saws ever made. There's guys thats been running them for 20+ years. I think your friend is on some good stuff. :D

I would rather have the 440 if I just had one saw. I would rather just have a 362 if I did'nt have to cut much stuff over 30". They are alot lighter and have plenty of power.

They are both the best you can get. The 460 is better for logs the 440 is better for some limbing work if you can only have one and are cutting down trees and of course you will be limbing go with the 440. And your friend is wrong these are great strong saws.

Power to weight... Thats where puting the 460 cylinder on the 440 makes a dream saw.

I have one of those conversions to do right now but am waiting on a 460BB from Baileys so I can finnish the saw.

If you're not stuck on Stihl and have a Dolly-dealer anywhere near, the 7900 is a great alternative. Smoother, lighter and more powerful than either the 460 or 440.

Yea, depends on a combination of what you are cutting and what you simply want in a saw. For many years I've been using a 60 cc saw for everything from felling to limbing. [036 Pro] If I drop a tree in the 28 to 32" range, which is about the largest thing I have available, and most are a bit smaller, I have to work the tree from both sides as I use a 20" bar on the saw. But big deal, takes me a few more minutes is all.

On the other hand, I now have a 441 as well with a longer bar, didn't really need it, just wanted it. Works great on those larger trees, too, but I could have done without it. [Of course, this site is responsible for my getting it, not me, and now I have a great extra saw if the 036 goes down for a while, and having a working saw is necessary.]

I prefer the 036 for limbing rather than the larger saw, keeps my forearms from getting sore. If something happened to both my saws, I would go out and get a 362.

Should be a NWP cylinder, last one I saw from them for 066/660 looked quite good, infact better than the last factory 660 jug I have looked at. I'v had pretty good luck with them but stick with stihl rings, pins and clips for the most part.

Not just sure what happend to the shipment though, I phoned it in because I needed a couple oddball parts that weren't on website. Been about 2-3 weeks and don't think the order showed on the CC bill.

Ask them who makes it for nwp I wonder?

The 440 is no better made than the 460. They are both incredible saws. If a 460 is too heavy for limbing, so is a 440. Neither one are really limbing saws, but they'll both do the job. A 440 is nothing to be sneezed at, but the 460 is just that much more of a good thing. Like TW said, I love a 440 with a 460 topend. I've done a couple of them. Here's my current one.

Here's one I did a year or two ago.

But don't sneeze at a 440 either. They're not to disappoint! This is a brand new saw with only a muffler mod.

I've owned both a 046 and 044. Primarily all we do is cut and sell firewood.
For a long time I thought a Muffler Modded 361 with an 18" bar was the absolute best firewood saw. This summer I bought both a 046 and 044 relatively cheap and decided I would keep the one I liked best.

I kept the 044, simply because of the power to weight ratio. It's not noticeably heavier than the 361 but quite a bit stronger. The 046 was stronger yet, but it had a full wrap set up and was as heavy as our 660.

The 044 (440) is as strong as most anyone would want for firewood cutting with the ability to be used for limbing. TW and Brad bring out an excellent point that you could just buy a big bore kit from Baileys and have the weight and balance of the 440 while making the power of a 460, and it's relatively simple and inexpensive to do.

You'll be hard pressed to find a better firewood saw than the 044/440.

So, what is the difference between the 440 and 460, that makes the 440 with the 460 p/c better than a 460 due to weight? I kinda thought that being such close saws they'd be identical except the cc's.

Great videos Brad!!!

What about the 7900 dolly???

How friggin big of limbs yall cuttin???

I can not imagine taking 10-12" limbs down to 3" using a 14+ # power head all day. I feel they both are for bigger stuff 12" or more??

How easy is the bb kit to install??

Piston diamiter , 044 is 2mm smaller than 046 and 4mm smaller than 046bb. Also a little more port area on the 046. Match that up with the tight light base of an 044 and it is a nice setup, ported it is wicked fast.

Ported is wicked fast, could you please compare it to some other saws like a ported 372 or 7900 how about a 288?
