Thought i would give my 346 a little love today to see if i could get it to love me back. I haven't fell in love with the 346 like many others have on here, It hasn't performed as well for me as many other members report. Gave it the once over, cleaned all the gunk out, sharpened the chain and took a few pics with my phone.

Here you go:

Hopefully get to give it a go sometime this week if the weather improves, about 18 inch of snow here at the moment which is nice!! Also still waiting for the 357xp to turn up, hopefully that might restore my faith in Husqvarna...

yes mate, it sure is! :) clean, tidy, cheap, and cuts better than the 346... you only like it because you can't see the quick tensioner on the other side! lol.

Well, no wonder it doesn't treat you very well...it looks like you take much better care of your MS260 than the 346xp...

I didn't think much of mine until I worked it over. even now, if I had a 357 or the like I wouldn't bother much with the 346

edit,, likely would feel the same about the 260/261 as well.

Only had the 260 a few weeks, thats my saw, the 346 is provided by work and is used every day, so probably about 10 times the amount of hours on it than the 260. Other than the silver clutch casing looking a bit tatty, the rest of the saw is spanking! The 'Husqvarna' sticker lasted probably about 2 weeks before it dropped off.

Thats why i have given a 357 a go... when it turns up! damn weather!!

Either those pics were took on your kitchen counter or you've got the cleanest workbench i've ever seen! Nice saws, i'd take either one.

I think it depends on the person and what they are using it for.

Those saws are 2 lbs. heavier, easy, as I recall...for me, if I'm bucking with it, no problem and definitely would rather have the larger saw. If I'm cutting with the saw on it's side, or at odd angles, the lighter saw is better for me. The 345/346/350/353 are very comfortable to do that type of work with. It's a great compromise of power and weight.

OTOH, I would rather have the 359 to buck with, and what I often use. This saw is noticeably heavier. than the 34x/35x series saw.

It's a tool, and at the end of the day use the tool that is right for the job.;)

I guess the damage to that 346xp mainly is transport damage, as I said in a pm - there is no way that using the saw can create that kind of wear.
I am not saying that the "silver" paint on those clutch covers is good though, as it obviously isn't - but it doesn't really matter!

Husky 346:

I have the 346, 350, and 353, all with 16" bars they are all great cutting saws.

Just can't see where the 346 is all that much better than the other two, all have had there mufflers opened up, I sharpen my chains after every use, and they cut like hell.

Use my 372 for the really big stuff, mostly use for clearing Oak Savanna's of box elder, cherry, hack berry, buck thorn, etc.

Just my own opinion.

That post tells me that something is wrong with your 346xp, even if it is the old 45cc version - sure they all are cutting good for what they are, but there also is a great difference in their performance, that is larger than the specs indicate. ;)

That is why I said "I". Not dissing on the 346..get a heck of a lot out of mine. OP must have been hard on his saw, my sticker lasted almost a month.

And I'm a'feared 'travel time' was not the culprit. (chips are from a surface planer)

346xp's are amazing saws... But the fuel lines tend to crack and make them run pooish. Check everything and tune it right, it will blow your mind!
