Been learning how to climb on a pine tree, so I have some pics and videos of it. This was the third lesson climbing today, found another member here Ozzy42 who lives localy who was willing to help me out in the process. This by far is the most fun I have had since my kids were born. I was a blast, not only did I get to try climbing with supervision, I got to run my 044, Super 250, and 797. Also got to try out a Ms 192t and Ms 200t. Looks like I have more saws to by LOL. If you run into Ozzy42, please hit him with some rep!!!

Nice work and good on Ozzy for teaching you.

Those are some fantastic photos, you have a gift there, too.

If that's the same log, my unofficial eyes say that 797 smoked that 440. YAY!

All three of those saws were ones that I rebuilt, two of them being there own thread here on AS. Still working on getting the tuning just right on them, but none the less, I am very proud of them. Unfortunately the chain on the 044 was getting dull by the time I got to noodling. Being as it is a square tooth I had no way to sharpen it. This is also the biggest tree dia. wise so far. Not used to maneuvering the longer bars, I have a lot of respect for the guys who do this day in and day out, both fallers and climbers. Its not an easy job by any means.

next time cut them stubs flush. cool photos.

Thanks, I should have cut them flush but hind sight is always 20/20. I still have a lot to learn.

Nice job. What kind of pine is that, Slash?

Thanks, and yes that was Slash Pine. This was not a one day deal, it was actually over a period of three different days. I was covered in pine pitch LOL.

Thats awesome Brian! whats the plan with all the pinecakes?:heart:THEWOOD

Dont know, its my friends tree, probably going to the dump.

Great pics and videos, looks like you had a blast. Thanks for posting.
It was fun!! Dont get to do this very often.

Thanks, I didnt do the photos though, credit for that goes to my friend Steve. It was his tree, and I had him take the photos and videos with the cameras he uses for his website.

And the 044 felt super light after the 797, but it didnt feel as fast. In the 044s defense the chain was loosing its edge, but so was the other chain LOL. 30 years old and still a beast.

Lookin good Brian, I would have had a blast also.
How ya liking that 797 now.

Lee

I love the 797, it wears me out quick, but its a blast. I finally had earmuffs on, but Steve the camera guy did not. His first time around real saws. Said it was so loud it made him nauseous LOL.

great pics and great job. I have climbing gear and still get up in trees now and again. nothing like the feeling of being 50+ feet up and dropping a hefty top. I went to college at Paul Smiths College in the adirondacks. a few of my friends were in thier Urban Tree managment program (Arborists) we called them Urban Tree Monkeys.......

My thoughts exactly, the 797 seemed to have the most aggressive chain anyways too.

Climbing is the best, nice job!

I am exhausted and sore. I dont get to run the saws often and havnt built that muscle memory yet. Oh and I am terrified of heights, so the climbing wore me out too. It took a lot of moving around to find that spot I was balanced and comfortable. But it was a blast, I want to do it again tomorrow.
