Lets talk about gas cans

No Spill Brand Cans- USA made, the only can on the market worth spending money on.

The fuel I put in my No Spill can is 18$ a gallon, haven't lost any yet.

I use 5 gallon plastic jugs to do the major mixing and storage in, and then I pour them into Bar Oil jugs that I acquire which are tied together with a small rope and fill the gas one up near the top and the oil one about half way. Cheapest and handiest jugs you can make. They can be hung over your shoulder or over your saw or on a little branch so the skidder doesn't drive over them or get lost.

no spill cans and be done with it. theyre twice to thrice the price of the others but there is no comparison

so you think you are sooooo smart????? i think i need to stop over ther and smack you:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:
i am just kidding,,,,, that is a good idea though,,, i usually only mix 1 gallon at a time myself,, i have a few of the gas cans that came out right before the new epa cans came out,,
i hate spilling gas on my saws,,it is just a pet peeve to me,, i really hate spiling bar oil even more

gas cans

Not to change the subject ,but man the cans they offer now just suck ! They keep trying to change the neck vent setup .
They allways seem leak ,when shaken up the mix or pooring out / epa sucks ,why don't they leave us alone !
The old plastic cans with a pop off lid ,chilton i think, with a pop off vent that was teathered worked great . The latest one I bought has a leaver to open to poor with a built in vent .. Oh thats fine if you live where its cloudy all day .Because it wont vent when sitting . When its in the sun ,blows up like a balloon !

Well ,,,,least my vent works :hmm3grin2orange:

The newer EPA cans swell and shrink drastically with temp changes. That is a good thing, it means your cans are sealed and the E-10 gas isnt sucking up water out of the air as the can "breathes". Im forced to run E-10 and have had ZERO problems storing gas in the newer cans. It can be a bit difficult to accurately pour the gas from some of the nozzles they sell today, but I think the tight seal, in a world of ethanol, outweighs the pouring shortcomings.

I've got 5 of the old cans with the vents on the jug and 2 that have the vent in the neck but aren't the stupid double lock ones that take 3 people to pour gas out of a 5 gallon can. I've made my own plugs with poplar limbs for 2 of them so far. I'm going to hold onto them for as long as possible.

I hate the new epa cans. I just threw out my last 2.5 gal. can with the vent on the back a piece of wood got it:frown: Ihave spilled more gas with the epa can than I did with all my pre epa cans. I guess the cans are smarter than me. My old can would swell up also until it got a hole in the side.

What's there to talk about....?

They're containers. They're meant to contain gas. Nuff said.

Do you have to be such a jerk....??

I'm pretty sure this topic was brought up so a conversation could be had. Your suggestion that it shouldn't be a conversation is rather unnecessary. Ass.

Anyone know if these can be had in the U.S.?

legally I think all of the cans have to actually be evaluated and certified by carb, epa, etc to be sold through the mainstream in the US.

You could try importing one, but between shipping and the actual can it will probably be the most expensive gas can you've ever bought. AFAIK the ones in Europe and Australia are like $40-$60 straight up, no shipping customs etc.

I too have spilled many more gallons of gas with the ####ty EPA cans than I have with the old vented cans. I have several of the old ones for boat use etc, and cherish them dearly.

While I think it's silly and stupid to have the CARB cans at all, the present ones on the market bought at hardware stores and the big box stores suck so much because they're made to be so cheap. When you look at what the nozzle is supposed to be doing and then you consider that the damn thing is $6 it's no surprise that they perform so poorly.

I think if we payed realistic prices for what we were getting and if there were an expectation from the consumer that they should cost a bit more we wouldn't have the problems that we're having. I've gone through like 3 or 4 other carb cans before getting the no spill one. I'd either get so pissed at them once they really started falling apart that I would throw them and break them or I'd try to modify them and the #######s had gone to great lengths to make them fail soon after modifications.

I haven't tried to take it out. Do you just cut them off?

it's just cliped in under the lever. carefuly take a flattip and un hook the hinge to get at the lock , use same driver to pop it out . once you look at it it's pretty simple. i hate those can's but that makes it so you don't need three hands to use the damn thing.

ive been doing that same thing for 25 years.

i use a combi can an old farmer gave me,,i think i seen 'em in bailys catalog. i also scored an old, western auto, 2 1/2 gallon can at the flea market,,(was) like brand new..the combi can, can be tough to get along with when trying to pour summer blend oil out of it but the winter grade pours out if okay..i'm sure i'll order another one from bailys when this one is no longer serviceable..i also bought a couple adjustable "bung" plugs for the pour spouts and attached with contractor string,,been workin' for a few years now and i don't spill any fuel.
