Lets talk about gas cans

These still work fine.

legally I think all of the cans have to actually be evaluated and certified by carb, epa, etc to be sold through the mainstream in the US.

You could try importing one, but between shipping and the actual can it will probably be the most expensive gas can you've ever bought. AFAIK the ones in Europe and Australia are like $40-$60 straight up, no shipping customs etc.

kwalshy went to Poland a few months ago on business. He brought a few of those Husky cans that he bought locally back with him in a spare luggage bag. I bought one from him. Think it was $30 or $35. If there was a shipping cost involved, it definitely would have turned into a 60-dollar venture. Real nice gas can.

No Spill Brand Cans- USA made, the only can on the market worth spending money on.

The fuel I put in my No Spill can is 18$ a gallon, haven't lost any yet.

no spill cans and be done with it. theyre twice to thrice the price of the others but there is no comparison

Agreed .... and 'No Spill Jill' could sell ME anything! :hmm3grin2orange:

I know a guy over here who had one of those Husky models ..... then ran over it with his pickup an hour later!

The last three years our county has had household hazardous waste collection days over the summer. As part of this, they do a F*R*E*E gas can exchange; you bring in a non-CARB compliant gas can and exchange it for a compliant one, which are from No-Spill. Pretty much hits my price point dead on. I buy up $1 cans at garage sales, exchange them and give away to neighbors and friends.

I use 5 gallon plastic jugs to do the major mixing and storage in, and then I pour them into Bar Oil jugs that I acquire which are tied together with a small rope and fill the gas one up near the top and the oil one about half way. Cheapest and handiest jugs you can make. They can be hung over your shoulder or over your saw or on a little branch so the skidder doesn't drive over them or get lost.

This... is... money...

I'm following this thread now, because the little plastic containers i've been using for the past 7 or so years tend to develop cracks in the seams. Not to mention they all have been a pita to use because of weird nozzle configurations. I won't even get into the pouring methods I've had to employ to use some of these with automobiles.

I have purchased a couple of premixed 40:1 fuel containers at the local Wal-Mart just because i thought it would be nice to have the containers. i like the size and figured that it would be good for fuel. One container has leaking issues (maybe they only work for the one time opening when new) and I haven't touched the new container.

I like that they are metal. anyway, continue on. I'm reading...

All the fuel cans I use are plastic, square or wedge shaped (bigger on the bottom than the top) and not a single one of them are the "new type". I absolutely hate the "new and improved" cans so am always on the lookout for used cans of the type I want. Usually, they are easy to find but are missing the cap for the spout or a vent cover or something. I won't buy them unless they're complete. I have a lot of fuel cans that I use for ope, old cars and tractors, airplanes, etc. (maybe 20 total) I also fill 55 gallon drums and then transfer it to the cans from time to time. All the fuel in cans is non-alcohol fuel that I have to travel to acquire. I do that a couple times a year.

I am very adamant that fuel cans need to be kept closed at all times unless they're pouring fuel. It peeves me when someone leaves the vent open or a cap loose. Not concerned with the fuel evaporation but with insects getting in, dying and then plugging up something important with their carcass.

For diesel, I generally use 5 gallon pails that hydraulic fluid or motor oil came in. After a few uses, the spout that pulls in and out cracks and then I tear off the top and use it for a bucket and get a different one. I mark these clearly so as to eliminate confusion as to contents.

My mix gas goes into cans that are unique from the others and I only put mix gas in those two.

I use Jonsered Combi can - Cans , similar with the husky.. as with all jonsered products.. I also have Stihl combi can, but it's not that good as the Jonsered because of the bad fuel spout. I think they cost about the same, 45e or so.

Here is my 1 gl ummm epa compliant can. $5 at local flea market, $4 can of spray paint....

These are spendy, but work well bringing it home from the store or using for larger amounts. This is the 5 gallon, you can get it in 2 or 2.5 gallon also.

I've got two fivers myself. Them are the chizznit if ya ask me.

I've been meaning to get my hands on a two and a halfer. They're well worth the money. Gonna hafta jump on one soon.

OK, complaint number one: I live in WA, why does CARB have any say whatsoever over what container I can buy to store gas in? Complaint number two: these newfangled auto-vent-lock-a-ma-bobs are all about preventing fuel vapor from escaping the can, but hardly a one of them can dependably get gas from the can to something else without massive spillage. Doesn't that defeat the purpose? Complaint number three: the 5-gallon metal jerry cans I am "allowed" to buy are lined with some craptastic plastic material which breaks down quickly, and then the can corrodes, and both liner debris and can debris end up in the tank. Does anybody designing this stuff think about these things, at all?
