You bought these things through e-bay/paypal?

Hate to say it, but the seller would be on the hook if that is the case. I know I always am when usps flubs up.

one of my posts says a box corner was riped up and there was more tape than the sender put on the top seam. Also there were plastic support straps put on the box that have to be melted together with a machine to get them on tite. I'm not accusing any USPS employee of stealing... the parts probably fell out and will never be seen again...

Hey Mang,
That just blows about your missing parts. I'm pretty sure my local shop guy has a 009 carcass or two. If you're interested I can check it out for you. He usually cuts me some steep discounts on stuff.
If we work this out I'll be sure to use UPS.........and a double box........LOL!!!!

I hate having to depend on any shipping service, they all suck! I tremble like a dog crapping a peach seed everytime I have something shipped. Anything I ship I heavily insure.

Yeah most people don't realize how many conveyors and slides these sort facilities have. I've learned you wanna bubble wrap sharp objects so they can't blow the side out. your box problably was traveling at a high rate of speed and ran into another package once the hole starts im sure there was a plethora of hanzel and gretel crumbs around the joint and with 50,000 plus at one facility there is NO CHANCE in hell they will find that you belong to those parts.

talked with a family friend that works in a a post office.. said that the post master there was crooked as a dogs hind leg... he would open s netflix dvds find somthing to watch then maybe send it back.. the customer never got it.. ( which would explain why some of my netflix never show up.. they are shipped and then eventually end back up at netflix)

UPS just THREW 3 packages 10 feet from the house up on the porch and hit the side of the house with 3 packages today... not our usual UPS driver... some chick... and then tore out of the driveway.... she ran off the edge in 5 places... and cut the corner so bad in one spot she went across the yard corner...

Ok all I have to say is this blows! I found Greg (another arborist member) through ebay and bought a few things from him... One thing leads to another after speaking on the phone and before you know it Greg has immassed a giant box of parts for me over 2-3 week period. The S&H is brutal from CT to IA so I had him hold off on send until i knew everything I needed was in the box to finish 2-5 saw projects... Needless to say i was getting anxious to get these saws running before my Christmas break so I could go cutting! Greg sent out the box on 12/10 so there was plenty of time for me to receive the box and get the saws all together in time for a good cutting weekend... Well Tuesday night the package finally arrives after sitting in the Des Moines sorting center forever! All anzious I poped open the box to find....

Stihl 024 Super
Stihl 024 recoil
Stihl 009/010/011 flywheels (x2)
Stihl 009/010/011 coil-handle-1/2case...

What I didn't find and was supposed to be in there...

1x Stihl 009/010/011 complete crankcase
1x Stihl 009/010/011 oil pump
1x Stihl 009/010/011 clutch and sprocket drum
3x Stihl 009/010/011 lower roller rod bearings
1x Stihl 009/010/011 Walbro carburetor
1x Stihl 009 Clutch Cover
1x Stihl MS290 flywheel
1x Stihl MS290 carburetor (without limiter caps)
1x Stihl 009 black handle cover (this is the top of the throttle handle)
2x Stihl 009/010/011 fuel/gas caps (x2)
1x Stihl 039/390 Crank, connecting rod, piston and wrist pin assembly

How much does this suck!?!?!?

Oh and the fact that since USPS lost all these items and they weren't insured, so I'll probably never see the parts I need and if I do it won't be in time to go cutting this weekend! Not to mention I can't change my vacation now... IE: I can't cut this weekend and won't have enough vacation time go cut later this winter. Oh and the $$$ I am gonna need to spend over again these parts that I need!

This Blows! The Christmas Grinch already won and put me in a bad mood for the rest of the holiday weekend... Hope Ya'll are faring better than me!

Happy Holidays,
Nathan

PS: insure you packages if they are over $25 in value!

That is indeed unfortunate. I don't have any parts in the list you've shown, but if you need anything in the 021 / 023 / 025 series I might have something you need. I would be happy to send you anything I have among those parts for shipping (through Fed Ex). PM me if you want me to look through my stuff.

i NEVER send anything usps unless it is a light weight item

I've shipped close to 800 boxes that weighed 40+ lbs through the post office in the last couple years. Only lost one. Gotta love those flat rate boxes. :D

But I am sorry to hear about the saw parts. Key is to package them up right and tight. And the seller is always responsible for the item/s getting to the buyer.

I'm a gov't employee but on the lower end of the pay scale and consider myself lucky to have a job... The crazy thing i can't wrap my head around is that we pay our teachers in the local grade school less than the lady that drives around to deliver mail... sound off to you???

And that is the way it should be, not that teachers don't deserve a raise. If the heat goes out in the mailman's car he/she just works in the cold, if the heat goes out at a school they shut it down and send everyone home. When it is raining the mailman's window still has to be rolled down while he/she is getting soaking wet, the teacher gets to sit inside and watch the mailman get soaked. Catch my drift yet?

To the op
Hate to hear about the USPS losing your goodies but there is always a chance they could turn up. I had the chain brake for a 268xp show up months after it went MIA, USPS had paid for the part and I had already replaced it.

Having usps insurance is practically worthless anyway...........they will wiggle and squirm and require you to jump through a few hundred hoops only to not pay you anyhow.

That sucks!

Someone here once posted that the USPS requires receipts to prove the value of missing items for insurance claims; I have no idea if that is accurate.

They've always paid up for me without receipts. I mean, they didn't require receipts when I bought the insurance for the package and I'm sure as hell
not going to bear the burden of proof of value when they lose my package.

Nathan,

Glad you posted this.

What a disaster. You didn't notice (because it was missing out of the box) that there was a second box inside the first box that went missing as well. And almost all of the items were individually bagged in freezer lock bags. I assure you that I do not have a box strapping machine - I just taped the hell out of it with packing tape as I always have. Hopefully USPS can identify where the straps came from as it might help them locate where the breakage occurred.

I've sold several things on ebay before (and to members) and I've never had this happen. I can't help but feel somewhat responsible for not insuring the box - although it slipped both of our minds to even think about it.

Nathan - thank you for your hard work in contacting USPS and trying to get the missing parts located. As we discussed earlier, hopefully they can locate at least some of the parts and once we get things figured out I will refund 50% of your money for the items that got lost. We are both getting completely screwed here, but it feels better only getting a half screwing :)

Please keep me posted.

So if you spend the day soaking wet you make more money.

I had this same thing happen. What caught my eye was when you said the box was sitting at the bulk mail facility. They allow the package to sit there waiting for pieces to catch up with it. You might get the rest of the package if you can find someone at the bulk mail center to go looking through the mismatched property. Maybe go by your local Post Office and ask the Post Master for a contact person so you can explain to them what to look for.

Guess I'll chime in to see if I can offer a little advice....

Having worked for the big brown machine for 13 years, and actually working in the department that deals in lost merchandise I can say it happens a lot. Boxes get jammed on conveyors, torn and items fall out. We catalog the item and send to a main collection warehouse waiting for a claim. Much of it get sold at auction (Kansas City MO guys the main WH is there).

I would say the USPS has some similar process for claiming missing items. Work w/ them, provide photos, part numbers, other identifying stampings the sooner the better before they get to deep in the pile.

I would speak to your local office and ask what the process is to claim lost merchandise, and know th emore information you can give the better. Especially since it is a good bet few at the USPS can tell a clutch cover from a guide bar.
