can someone tell me what year this is?? i got it as a parts saw. its all there sept the flywheel. gonna see how good it runs then look for a 288 cyl, all ready have a new OEM 288 piston
The other top cover likely is from a 281xp, or it is a different 288xp one.
It is from 1985, because of the 5 at the beginning of the serial number, and the fact that it is a "silver" tag - the two next digits are the week.
yours looks/runs good. you know if the 281 piston will fit the 181
Yes, the 281 piston is compatible with the 181.....Your original piston may have thin rings, but the 281 piston will have the wider rings....Other than that' it's the same.
I have a 281 piston in my 181 in fact.:msp_thumbsup:
whats up with the 3 different cylinders?? my had a "B" stamped on top. was there 3 different bores??
501 80 10-02 (A)
501 80 10-03 (B)
501 80 10-04 (C)
Mine has two thin ring's.
That's the old piston to cylinder fit (clearance) system where "in a perfect world" piston and cylinder clearance was calculated to within a few ten tousandths of an inch.....Pretty much all pistons come as an A/B clearance now.......
