As standard procedure dictates any time I'm in a tractor supply I take a stroll down the chainsaw isle to see what's new. Although this was my first time in this particular store I knew something was up. "What's this 435 with a yellow clearance tag" I pick up the saw to take a closer look. "Originally $269.99, Now $50.00, Parts Only, As Is" Even if it was just for parts the price seemed worth the gamble. I scooped it up & went back to shopping with my wife. As we walked around the store I checked the basics, pulled the cord it had good compression and felt smooth. I checked the chain & even with the brake off it wouldn't turn I figured maybe it was something with the chain brake.

As soon as I got home it was saw time. Since I was primarily concerned with the functionality of the engine I flipped on the choke, primed it & one pull, IT RUNS. Only problem was when I got on the gas it bogged down and still no chain movement. I took off the clutch cover and it seems the chain brake band had gotten jammed up, once it was popped back into its groove the chain was free.

50 bucks & 5 min of work for a new saw, WIN!

Nice score. Lightly used saw for a very excellent price. Maybe have to visit that store on a more regular basis, eh? Pick up some of those $10 jeans they have on sale now while you're at it.

I was at Tractor Supply the other day and they had a broken/return rack. $150 for a cub cadet weed wacker with a broken shaft is a bit much. But one time they did have a piece of eqipment marked wrong and the manager honored the price. Save about $400.

1. you suck 2. you suck and 3. How did you put it in the cart with no wife cad complications? Mine would have well yeah.:help:

same thing happened to my 235, took a couple pairs of vice grips to get it loose but i got a free saw out of it!

Sux to be you! Nice score for sure. Can't
Beat the price on that one! That is better than money in the bank IMO!

Yea Yea Yea, I suck :) and I'll admit it was 80% luck & 20% confidence that I could fix it. As for getting it approved by the wife, that was the hardest part of the whole deal. Since we're both natural born deal hunters I started with the "look at the price" pitch. She was impressed, but still questioned the "as is, for parts" note. As an engineering tech, machine / fab shop owner & life long tinkerer she knows if there was a good chance.

Of course after I get it running I come in the house with the biggest sh*t eating grin on my face, she clearly head it running. Just shook her head, "this is only going to encourage you isn't it". Of course that was followed up with "Your probably going to go tell everyone on the arborist site arn't you? Of course, you guys and your CAD"... at least she knows.

Good deal. I wouldn't have been able to pass that one up either. Most of the TSC stores around me don't tend to discount things that much.

Fine score

Yea I was surprised to see that much of a discount. Typically it's 25-50 bucks off a "reconditioned saw" which is still covered in bar oil & wood chips. They'd probably have more takers if they cleaned them up a bit. I'll admit it's a one and a thousand find, but if you don't look you'll never find anything.
