Yes and no. Casting looks good. Plating, what I can see, looks good. But there is a rattle or squeak from the package; pistons should not move in the mail. I want to document it in case its scraped or scuffed. It is wrapped inside the cylinder, so maybe not a problem. Rings are on the way, correct?

Remind me the size? I can't remember what I had for lunch.

Never mind, Stihl 290. They were ordered, should be any day now.

"Expert in chainsaw engineering"? That sounds like getting an art history degree.

E.C. Engineer would fit nicely under Randy's username. :msp_biggrin:

We need to come up with an actual certification for this...

No offense, but the guy who didn't know enough to know that the free porting was bad is the same guy who deemed you an expert. :D

My dang hip-waders ain't tall enough - and it's starting to smell...

There is one, it looks like this .

I thought it was this :poop:

Sorry guys I won't have time to get the 440 P&C kit posted tonight. Got to be in bed early ! Grandson has hernia surgery early in the morning at children's hospital, poor little guy is only 10 wks. old. 60 mile one way drive for me.
So tomorrow afternoon or evening I will start a thread and post the pix. Takes me a while, only have dial up crap. LOL

Prayers sent up for the little guy. You be careful Bro.

Pie, I mean A.M., I mean cylinder, I mean...

OK so dis guy right, called " Hackman from FreePort" u knowed da guy right?"

All BS aside you MM must be the luckiest SOB on planet earth to get all the free-port kits.

An AM kit with some nice radii on the entries and exits would make a nicer piece in general with less ring snagging problems and much more potential to be ported for max TQ. Most of what we know as porters has been learned by pushing the limits of a stock port in thicker castings. Then horror of a thin casting is what usually ruins the day or sometimes an evening.

Factory ported is just a myth and always will be. Having a great shape and plenty of meat to remove is what is really needed to achieve the intended goal in mind. Bigger ain't always better, most of the time.

Good Luck to the little guy.:msp_thumbup:

I made a mistake earlier about the 55CP fins, here are some pics so you can see for yourself. Casting #'s on my closed port are 44ZN15. And the open port is 46ZD5

^^^The closed port is on the right, I put the red arrow where the ++++ markings are. They are visible without any disassembly.

^^^ The closed port is on the right here.

^^^ It's on the left this time :) Also, a picture of the CP 55 44mm piston.

This thread is turning out to be informative, thanks guys......However, it is a little weird seeing the Chimp, Bear and Cow, trying to behave:msp_unsure:...I kinda miss the mayhem:waiting:

I assume the open port runs better?

Wish the best with the Grandson. Kids, Grandkids & Family take precedent over everything else.

I'd like to say that because of your efforts in showing this kit the way you did and that it had problems. Your expert examination and exact report of why... the supplier has discontinued sales! The Engineer had nothing to say but good things and said your assessment was spot on and called you an expert in chainsaw engineering!!

I hope this wasn't our little Chinese friend Randy? The first lot of 660BB kits I got in freeported too and I had to take photos and explain to him what I meant.

You must be one of the few in Ohio who feels that way, some of your neighbors frown on humor and weep uncontrollably when people are not
