Its just a temp job. I cleaned the cylinder best I could, and cleaned up the piston. And used the best rings out of the 5 I had. Need to eventually find a better top end.

Doesn't look nearly as sharp as yours. Did you paint yours? What kind of paint?

I didn't repaint that whole saw. Just painted the recoil you sent be and kinda blended some paint around on the rear handle since I had the spray gun out anyway.

I was using a single stage automotive acrylic enamel.

Ha! I've had the green fever for a long time. Don't see many of that series (4200-8500) around here though. In fact, I've never seen any listed closer than 100 miles away on my local CL. I have a 5200 project (that came from the Sacramento area) and a 4200 parts saw (that came from an AS member in another state) already.

My friend in Reno (who's not a saw nut) did mention that he thought I wasn't doing well in the trade because Jim got a big heavy box (taped shut as it was waiting to be shipped) while I just got the 'little' Poulan. I'm sure he's never ran a saw over 50cc, so the 'little' 4900 would surprise him quite a bit.

Good thing it doesn't have a bar, or I'm sure he'd be tempted to fuel it (with God only knows what) and cut up some pallets or something (not many trees in Reno/Sparks). He's a bit of a redneck (more than me)....:D

Aaron, your going to really like that 4900...

^^^^^^^^^^^^ Agreed.

If it runs half as good as it looks (one of the nicest I have seen)....he should be well pleased.

I am always amazed at how 'strong' a saw they are. 77cc is not a small saw, you would expect it to 'pull' pretty well, but I wasn't really ready for the torque....first time I used it.

I haven't used a bar longer than 24" on it....but I am confident it would handle something bigger.

Good score!

Flint.

The 4900 and 5200 impresses me as well. I really like the torque they have in the cut. :msp_wub:

Only time I get to run them though is at the gtg when Mark and Mike allow me to.

How do they compare in the cut compared to a 245a? A huge difference, minor?

About like a stock 3400 versus an 1800.

I love the 245 but it can't hold the lantern for a 4200 to cut by.
The 245 is lighter and more nimble, and a great saw for its weight and age, but the 4200-8500 series is light years ahead in cutting.

Make sure to look everything over first as I have not run this saw in about two years or so. The 245A is lighter but does not have near the power, it is real close to the same power as the 8500 where I have a hard time fealing the difference in performance, at least with 24" bar and chain. I found I prefer the 8500 over the rest of the series so the rest is going down the road.

I am really looking forward to running that 4900. I'll go through it before I put it to work though. It'll get an NOS 28" 3/8-.050G Tsumura sprocket tip that I've been saving for just the right saw.:cool2:

Mike

Thanks, just wondering! My 245a is the first larger saw I ever owned. I have yet to even see any 4200-8500 series saws around here. I have some 3400s and one 4000, that's it.

3600

I have a chance to pick up a fairly nice looking 3600 (at least from the pics) if it's still available tonight. I don't know how commion they are with you guys but I know it uses the same P+C as the PP365. For those of you that own a 3600 or 365 or have used one, what's your opinion of them?

First poulan post for me i belive. and have 2 poulan issues. i have 2150 that just resealed the clam shell with Ultra rtv black and it has an unsteady idle. but My Wright 111 has broken points 53-11243 any one know what a good fix for this is?

Regarding the 2150, I'd check your sealant. Only Permatex I've had luck with was Motoseal#1. Its Gray in color. Used the black once and it leaked. An air leak would be noticeable in poor idling.

From a few pages back, your Wright 111 is a Poulan XX. You may be able to ask for an IPL for that saw and get the part number and see if you can get replacement points that way.

Great saw, runs very close if not better than a Husky 262 or Stihl 036....just mod the muffler and replace fuel/impulse lines and if cylinder is good you should be good to go.....

Its the actual bakolite arm that's cracked its attached to a grounding strap only replacement
I've seen is the entire point assy i was wondering if just the point arm was common to some extent. Would the saw be wothe the 20$ 53-11243 set? Never run one of these. View attachment 301723

I picked it up. Runs very well. I have to check it over. The only thing that's a bit chewed up is the front of the brake handle and I'm not sure how that happens. We got talking and he threw in a Homelite 240. Is that an insult? I guess I can use it for the screws, bar and the carb if nothing else.

I'm looking forward to giving it a workout. I has a Vanguard chain (yuk).

Thanks for the feedback as always.

Did I read a post here where Aaron wanted to send me his 4900?

Pictures please of the 3600, I want to see the top covers. Still trying to get a firm grip on the differences between a 3500 and a 3600. I got a guy with a 3500 that he brings me to service and his has the narrower top covers and a single pawl starter setup compared to my 365...

You can do away with the points and run a nova module if you want to.

Sorry Tim. No dice......unless you're sending me a P-60/655 series saw in trade for it.:D

The 240 is basically an overgrown Super2 with more displacement, AV, a rear handle, and some proprietary parts (such as the AF). Not a bad saw really..........but they won't do anything a 42cc Wild Thing type saw can't do. I'm making a runner out of two given to me. If you part that bugger out save the AF for me...
