I picked up a 254 a few weeks ago that had a blown crank, but I had another good bottom end.

I'm really liking 50cc saws lately for the cutting I'm doing around home, and I haven't ground on any cylinders in awhile.....Ported and muff modded for my pleasure!:msp_tongue:.....I think there's some more to be had, and I'm going back in to do some more, but this is a 25 year old saw that definitely doesn't know that it's only 54cc's...:msp_thumbsup:

254 was never a secret :bowdown:but the value of those saws just got bumped.........................& she's pulling like a 60cc saw. Why go new when you can renew!

This was a SECRET! Now you have done it. Got 2 runners and 3-4 to build. 254 is overlooked bad boy. Good job!
Shep

I am with you,,, I like 50cc saws and smaller even though I have up to 103cc,, the smaller saws are always my go to saws

Is there a difference in the 254 and the 254xp? Troll?

As I recall it, there isn't much difference between the 254 and the first version of the 254xp. The main changes (including air injection) were made a couple of years into 254xp production.

There was an increase in power output at some point, but I am not sure when that was.

Nice work!

I am going through one now for a buddy It was his grandfathers saw. What kind of numbers did you put in it? One of the biggest problems I see right now is two of the top over holes are stripped.

I'm going back in and doing a bit more grinding....I'll Pm you with my final #'s.

One top cover hole is broken out on mine too......Seriously one of the most fun saws I've run lately. I'm cleaning up all the small blow down and snow pressed trees on my property, and this thing is crazy fast bucking up under 6 inch wood...It spools up so fast!

Imo, grinding is only for rocked out etc. chain - it needs to be filed as well to get really good!

I had a 254xp for a little while, wished I'd have kept it.

Nice saw, but I like a ported 346xp much better!!! :msp_biggrin::msp_biggrin:

Aren't the 254 and 257/261/262 built on the same chassis?

I don't have my head wrapped around it Neal. Yes I think so but I know you can not put the 257 or262 top on a 254 easily.
254s have low numbers big ports high compression and turn some decent rev stock.

I think many of the parts are different like the carb and stuff. Somebody must know
