i advertised some rubber roofing for firewood tarps or whatever.guy called and said he wanted them . he was here in 1/2 hr. and paid my price.took the ad down next day and for 2 weeks kept getting emails from some scammer women who said my ad sounded sexy.:dizzy: reported it to CL but didn't stop till i emailed one back and told her i was a state trooper.on the other hand i been selling bins of firewood and everybody has paid my asking price.

I think CL is worse with saws...I've sold alot of other stuff with almost no problems...(other than the J A that said I was selling his stolen string trimmer...anyway, that's another story) but I've been stood up twice in the last week and had the saws sold out from under me...really pizzd me off but CL is free so I can't really complain....get what you pay for I guess

Craigslist is a crazy place, I never get too attached to a deal before I've got the item in hand, and if its something I really want I know I've got to be quick.

I go on CL fairly often and have yet to buy anything.Called on one item and the guy didn't seem to care if he sold it or not(046).Unless you are looking for a good laugh I think it's a huge waste of time. The good stuff is gone to the people that live on CL and the rest seems to be someone looking for a sucker.

I don't know what prices we are talking here- $40-50 off a $400 saw is reasonable. $40-50 off a Wild Thing might be an insult. You said yourself that you started high???? It sounds like he did make a counter offer but you got your feelings hurt. Maybe your "high end " price was out of line???? I'm sorry, but I don't see your point in this scenario.
So his reply to my e-mail started with "thanks for your time" which to me means "I am no longer interested" then he proceeded to tell me my prices were crazy and list what prices he thought each saw was worth. So I replied that the total of his prices was only $40 less than what I suggested and that perhaps given different circumstances I would have taken even less than that. So he replies this morning that he would only pay $40 less than what he just told me the just said the saw were worth... Maybe I am just bitter, and as far as the point, I already said sorry for the rant.

Oh and some back ground this came after dealing with another joker about a brush cutter that he wants to sell but can never make the time to meet, and countless none replies. I have made some good scores on CL but most things seem to go south quick.

I've only had good experience with CL thus fare, but when selling stuff I always meet somewhere other than my house just saying.

I have had good success with CL but I dont drive too far and the first one to show up with $ takes it. people round here are pretty decent to deal with and have made some friends. this song pretty much sums it up

I do take precautionary measures though, prior to anyone showing up.[/quote]

I only meet at very public places that I know will have at least a few people around and I usually keep a cell phone and something sharp close...I've met some pretty cool people but some weirdos too...never know what you might run into

Right next to his house and he wants all the limbs and leaves gone as well. Power lines within 20' and the neighbors place is 35' away with a heavy lean on the tree toward both.... want his number?

i been to that movie....

I've only found one saw on Craigslist that I moved on. It happened to be in my hometown and I noted it 1st thing in the a.m., i.e. within 20 minutes of it posting. It was a Husky 142 for $50 that didn't cut well. I sent an immediate email asking if it ran and if it leaked oil. I received a reply within 20 minutes saying yes it ran, and yes it leaked oil and they said $25. I told them I'd be over in 30 minutes. Started right up do I took it home. It had a dull safety chain and it was so full of sawdust that it was drooling, it wasn't leaking. 2 chains for $32 and it's a little beast. It pairs very well with my 2165.

I have got some good deals on cl, but i have dealt with some bs, Distance is often an issue. I only use a wanted add for saws, and find some people need money more than their saw or saw's. some people call me that want top dollar and i just say no. I will only pay half of what its worth, if they wont take it oh well.

When someone shows up to either look at, or buy what I have for sale, they enter thru my garage and not my house. It's always during the day and not at night. The item they want to look at, is on my work bench, or on the floor of my garage, ready to be seen.

I always make sure that I am armed and that it's very obvious. If someone shows up armed, they are told to leave their firearm in their car. If they have a problem with that, they are told to leave. No if's, and's, or but's.

Having retired from LE with over 29 yrs. of service, there are some other "things" that I do to prepare for their arrival. But, that's another story for another day.

Gotta admit I'd have no problem with that,You're carrying and you tell me to leave mine in the car,and I've got money for you, BYE.

Only once, did I have an "issue" with a guy showing up to look at what I had listed on CL. I met him as he pulled up on my driveway. He got out and I immediately saw that he was packing. I introduced myself and we shook hands. I told him that I understood his right to carry a firearm, but not while on my property.

I went on to say that while he was on my property, he was as safe as could be, and there was no need for both of us to be armed, and that one of us was gonna have to give. I smiled, he smiled and grinned, and said I agree. He then turned and put his handgun in his car.

Long story made short, we got along great, he bought what I had to sell, and left happy as a clam.

BTW....I have a full-sized light-bar in my shop, mounted on a shelf on a wall. I have a 12v battery powering it. He asked if it actually worked. I flipped a switch and lit it up. He loved it.

Every now and then, we still get together to go shooting. ;)

Moral to every cl story is get your ducks in a row before you even think about driving or having someone come to purchase something.

I have bought/sold many truck parts, guns, saws, household items on cl. Relay your expectations of condition and price to buyer/seller before either wastes any time.

I for damn sure make verbal contact with a buyer before they know where I live. You can weed out a lot of jackwagons just talking to them. Regardless, if someone is "packing" my home wil NOT be comprimised.

That being said, it must be trouble in other areas because once I make make contact with the buyer/seller around here things go pretty smoothly.

I always also try to cluster purchases if I am going any distance outside my home area- that way if one fails to show I haven't wasted the trip.
