Not trying to agree or disagree with this post and others opinions ....but after learning recently that the 200T is no longer available....I'm a landscaper, not an arborist...and reading here about the likes and dislikes of the 201t, I finally decided to go check one out. It doesn't look cheap as some have stated and looks as good as I can remember my 200t looked. I've read where the handle breaks?? Must be from 40' drops out of a tree. Comfortable and well balanced to me. Talked to two different dealers that were honest and said that most seem to be happy with their 201's but a couple of buyer's weren't happy. As one dealer says....it may not be a 200t, but it's still the best offered...I tend to agree....will buy one tomorrow . I also read where there are 201t saws now with upgrades from the factory....so I'd like to know what serial number or markings to look for....any help there would be appreciated.

You been living under a rock..?? - The 200T hasn't been in production for several years ..!!

And your dealer that said.." it may not be a 200t, but it's still the best offered".. is a county fair...blue ribbon winning dumb-ass..!!

For $100...($25 ship each way and $50 to fix carb and modify muffler)...blsnelling (member here) can make them run better than a 200T
(But you're looking at $100 over what you're gonna pay the dealer for the saw...It would be worth it to me...to you..?? - I dunno..??

You should use the search here for 201T to find out everything you need / should know before making the buy...IMO

@jus2fat.....no rock,,,have a nice home...as I stated,,,,I'm a landscape contractor , not a full fledge tree guy......so I guess that means I don't use a chainsaw that much and have used my 260pro and 360.....when needed......

Well...bought the new 201T today. I called Stihl and talked to their technical director Casey. He said there had been problems with the handle which had a "weak" spot but has since been changed . I was also told that Stihl had started doing the engine upgrade quite a while back. Both upgrades started at serial number 176569848. Mine is well above that. Also mentioned to me was the 200t had an aluminum muffler and the 201T has a stainless steel muffler which makes the two saws sound different. Using this for myself , not business purposes, gives me a year warranty, and buying a pack of oil moves it to a 2 year warranty. For me , it works.

Ok...just got a phone call from Casey at stihl.....he says after more research....stihl has also changed the ignition module and carburetor which only improves acceleration @ cold starting, ..the serial number starts at 177543232.....and it will be months before the dealers get these saws with this change. The cylinder change started long time ago. Hope this helps.

There have been multiple changes made to the 201. Exactly what was changed at SN 176569848?

Good info here. Thanks for sharing. The newest 201s do run much better than the earlier ones. At one point I was seeing 40%-50% gains with these simple mods. I'm now getting just under 20%. The earliest ones have been described as "unusable" by veteran arborist. The latest ones would not be near that bad. They're actually a decent running saw in stock form. But, when you can get 20% more for only a little work, why not?

Well ,,finally used my new 201.... Started right up, worked effortlessly......don't see any issues at all..glad I bought it.

....or just get a T540xp instead...
lf you read the OP, it was stated that the guy used his saw to make a living...that for sure rules out the 540t! Snelling knows his way around those 201's, he understands them well. For a small fee he fixed up a 201 rear handle for me that is every bit as good a saw as my 200t. Some Huskys are great...the 540 just aint one of them!

Went to take out the screen like I do on all my equipment and found out that there is no screen, only this piece, guess the dealer took it out during prepping it when I bought it? . Any reason I should reinstall it or this screw ? image.jpg

No reason at all.....the little flap right there on the muffler behind the screw hole on mine is missing Brad cut it off when i sent it to him.
