My muffler is missing the spark arrestor screen and the exhaust deflector is gone/ knocked off. Is there anyone I could send it to to make it a dual port muffler or at least add the deflector back? Or is it more cost effective for a new one?

Red97 made a bunch that would work. I recommend splitting the muffler and putting bolts in instead of screws. I put the bolts from the inside out and tack weld them in.

Yeah I am in no rush. Do I just send it to your business address? Ill box it up today and put it in the mail tomorrow. This would be a huge help to me. Thanks!

That muffler needs a good polishing, too! It will shine right up. Mine used to be the same color as yours...

Did you just use elbow grease and mothers polish? That looks great! Im getting more excited about this as the days go on. Those spikes look sweet too

I use a wire wheel and then a buffing wheel on a bench grinder. It probably takes 10-15 minutes total.

Whatever you do, don't paint it black. That looks horrible on these saws.

Clint your going to make me do even more work now. I installed Polemans carb but have never gotten a chance to run it yet. Now im going to have to shine up the muffler too.
i have less and less time to get out in the woods and when i do have time the weather is miserable and too muddy

Ok, ok.....now I gotta get involved!!! When you split it do you just leave out the inner baffel? I was wondering if the plate need cut off and used to reinforce the bolt holes or if it's strong enough without it??

I'm going to try some Port 15 silver header coating on mine to see what happens. Worked good on my street rod!!

Oh ya the muffler was split last night and body work done....lol!

This is the 7300 project recently aquired. Looks like it had a blown base gasket which leaned it out. Piston is in a bad way, just hope the jug is good. Did get a mint p/c from shorthunter tho if not.

Nate, let me know how the carb works....have made a lot of improvements since yours.

Clint, your MM 7900 sure liked the BIG carb!!! It loved fuel!! Incredible saw!!

cell 020.jpg cell 021.jpg cell 025.jpg cell 027.jpg cell 027.jpg i cut the baffle off that plate so that the mounting surface against the cylinder is still stiff plus if you leave it out there is a gap between where the screws tighten down and the inner part of the muffler against the cylinder.

Thank You, Nate...thats what I wanted to know!! Did you weld/tack the plate back in or can it be left with just the friction of the muffler halves once put back togather?

cell 027.jpg cell 026.jpgi dont weld them or anything. those tubes sit down in that plate and cant move once the muffler is all back together. see how the plate is like cupped where the tubes sit against it. there is a side by side of that plate so you can see how i grind the center of it out.

that funky looking chamber thing in these pics is the SLR feature on the 7910. 7900 doesnt have that but there is a cage

You ever put that big bore kit to use?

I did....I'm playing with a 7900 p/c and the big bore. At this point I would have to say the BB makes more torque.....could also be the carbs I'm trying. Been doing a lot so switching back and forth.

BTW...I got the muffler back together. ...harder than I thought to get everything to fit and line up. And I thought the uncritical would be the hard part....lol

the BB kits are decent. they do need to be cleaned up a bit though before use. caber rings don't hurt either. had 2 makitas, kinda miss them.

Yep...that's what I've done. Opened up intake and exhaust and cleaned up and matched lower transfers. Been taking baby steps to try to figure out what the top dogs here do to make them run. Still a mystery too me. I can get good gains from every other saw out there but the 7900's I'm clueless. My carb mods make a big difference but it really helps feed a good ported saw and helps the bottom end of the stockers.

Good rings are a given. Pretty much use OEM or Caber's

the timing #'s are somewhat unique with these saws. do some digging here, there are a few good build threads around.

Yes they are!! That's what Ive done....looked and read and reread all the threads trying to figure out what I can do.
I'm limited as to what I can do....I have a Dumore shaft grinder setup but nothing to cut squish or base bands ...yet.

Sold my 20 years project to open up my garage for more room to work.20140913_124234.jpg
