Of course "efficiently" varies massively.
If I don't have to carry it far and the fuel is close my ported 385 can be very efficient!

I dig it. But you must read a 300+ post oil thread to be sure you're running the correct oil at the correct ratio before you post if your saw is better than the next guys. True?C'mon now....

I run Belray H1R at 32:1 because I only run saws I fix primarily.... I will probably mix my next batch around 40:1 or a little leaner...
I would switch to Shindaiwa red armor if I could find it around here just to save some money... I don't like the Stihl HP ultra synthetic because I think it gives me headaches...
back to fast saws, I have an MS361 that is running a skip tooth chain on a 25inch bar and I have been only moderately pleased with it..... I need to try it with an 18 or 20 inch bar before I write it off....
needless to say, the MS361 is for sale....
I have a Husky 262xp that I am fixing that will be my next personal test...

For a stock 70 cc saw, everyone knows I think a 10 mm 044 is hard to beat, and with Randy's new recipe, it is very competitive ported also. (I have one of each).
That saw is hard to beat in the power to wt ratio. I think anything stronger is going to weigh more.

For 90cc - 100cc I would say Husky 395 and Poulan 655 second as they are very fast with good 6 cube torque.
For 100cc+ stock I would say Dolmar 166 with a standard Mac 797 second. The Dolmar will spank a stock 088/880 and the 797 has a lot more torque and rpm than a 125. A decent 090 would be in a class of its own as it needs a 60+ inch bar for it to shine.
Best overall big saw goes to a well ported 395. My Mastermind 395 will pull a 50" bar like it has no load. I am sure if you could oil it, it would pull a 60" and possibly 72" bar. The saw has 125 torque and almost big gear drive torque. It is stupid strong and with a 50" bar should have the rakers cut down considerably from stock just to try and load the saw down. And it doesn't even seem hot after a big cut.

I have had several of the 44 series Stihl saws (o44, MS440, MS441) and I have been moderately impressed with them in stock form....
A lot of the problem is that I am at 6000 foot elevation and so no saw has really been impressive to me yet.... a 5hp rated saw only makes about 4 hp here..... and so on...
I have been looking for a big Husqvarna but nothing has happened yet locally for cheap....

Take a 10 mm 044, add a low restriction air filter (like and HD-2), dp muff cover, and richen the tune a bit, then tell me what you think. It will be a lot different.

50cc - 346 or 550. Or 026. The 261 is definitely too heavy and bulky for this class. Ported, I'll go for a 346 of course.
60cc - Husky 560XP, but it's not available in the USA, so I'll choose the JRed 2260 or the 562XP. Or a good old 262XP. Ported, I'll go for a 359.
