50cc - 346 or 550. Or 026. The 261 is definitely too heavy and bulky for this class. Ported, I'll go for a 346 of course.
60cc - Husky 560XP, but it's not available in the USA, so I'll choose the JRed 2260 or the 562XP. Or a good old 262XP. Ported, I'll go for a 359.
70cc+ - Dolly 7900/Solo 681, and if not available, Stihl 461. Or a OE 372XP. Same answer with ported saws.
Over 80cc, I say MS661 or 390. But if you already have a 7900 or a 681, I'll choose a 395XP (still stronger than the 661 and 390 with a 36" bar and longer). Ported, I'll go for a 390, because this looks like a fun saw to run.
10cc+ - Stihl 090! But more seriously, the 880 is probably the best choice, but a ported one, of course.
Your 166 either had an issue or your 084 is much stronger than a 088 or 880. I had four 166's and an 088 & 880 and all of the 166's were stronger and smoother running than either the 088 or 880. Not by a ton, but noticeably. All were stock at the time. The 088 had it on the 880, but slightly. The 880 & 088 got ported and the 166's went to some guy on the east coast, goes by the reference, "Uncle Lee".100+ I had a tightened squish 166 that was run in stock saws class up in Canada and had 190psi. It was no where near my stock 084 I rebuilt.
I wouldnt put a 166 in no speed cutting test. My unlimited coil stit on ack 3120 would hurt it too.
Stock 70cc. My 70.7cc poulan out cut a 372 OE and 440 DP cover and opened back half. All using same chain for test cuts. 440 was 2nd and 372 was 3rd.
2 cuts 14" firm solid fresh take down ash.
372 11.87 11.91 stock no muffler mods screen pulled.
440 10.94 10.93 stock with muffler mod, DP muffler cover with enlarged side exit hole too.
445 10.13 10.44 stock no muffler mods and still had spark screen installed.
Sounds like you want a geardrive, maybe 3:1 or so? I got it, how about the 346G .Who wants a fast saw anyway?
But I didn't say I wanted slow either.Sounds like you want a geardrive, maybe 3:1 or so? I got it, how about the 346G .
