I got an email promotion offering 60.00 off this saw, making it $299. new.

Not wanting to start a heated discussion, and knowing that this saw is a homeowner grade saw, and reading reviews / opinions that are somewhat more positive than negative... and just because I want to add a Stihl to my small stable of Husky's, would this be a decent saw to use for light work. It would be added to Husky 365 24", 353 18".

Again, I don't need this saw... just want to have a Stihl.

This promotion ended in October unless other distro's are still running it.

The promotion and coupon I got states
"Offer valid on purchases between 8/1/2015 and 12/31/2015 at participating dealers while supplies last."

It's a good price. The lowest I remember it being was $309.95 with 18" 9 or 10 years ago.

Customer brought in an MS250 stating it would idle but not rev up. I took it outside, fired it up, and he was right. 30 seconds with my carb screwdriver and it was a screaming little machine again. That was my first time running a 250 and I was impressed! Nice saw!

I have one and like it a lot. People with a lot more experience than me consider it homeowner quality, but I have a few commercial grade saws and I believe it is top of the line for home owner grade and borders on pro quality.

I like mine. The 1st I bought after hurricane Rita. It cut up the 11 oaks, ash and hickory I lost in that storm.

In August I bought another after losing two red oaks about 28" at the base. When I grabbed the 2005 saw fuel was pouring out as fast as I was pouring it in. Found my brother had "borrowed" it without my knowing. I was so ****** I just went to town and bought the second.

After cooling off a couple days later I checked out the older saw. The fuel line was cracked where it made the first turn under the carb. $17 fuel line fixed it.

So now I have two. I bought the second Aug 6th. My dads birthday. But the dealer didn't mention the promotion. Methinks I might need another dealer.

Not all are participating.

It's a very good homeowners saw, lots of them being used out around here.
No it's not a 026/260, was never meant to be. For what its worth, you could do a lot worse.

When I went back about a week later to get the fuel line I had already gotten word of the promotion. When I brought up the subject the two behind the counter stated they didn't know - that they only got the word a day or two before.

At the time I didn't know it started on the 1st of Aug. If I had I would have probably created a scene. And there were no other customers there (that could benefit) at the time.

Like I said I think I need a new dealer. There are lots of Stihl dealers in East Texas. I don't have to look very far.

I've had my 025 since 1999, and have been pleased with it. I was going to sell it and buy a MS241, but I decided to keep it as a companion to my MS362C.
I wish now I would have gotten at least a pro saw instead of a second 250. But I was in the wrong frame of mind. I didn't know then what was wrong with my 250, I had two bars and several loops of chain and wanted to be able to swap parts if I needed to in order to troubleshoot the older saw.

I'll hopefully find a larger used saw I can repair. Then I'll sell one of the 250s. I'm not in a hurry. The two oaks are cut, split and stacked.

I doubt that offer really is a promotion sale, as the model is being replaced by the MS251 (has been some time ago over here). It more is about getting rid of remaining stock of a discontinued model. ;)

You have no use for a MS250 when you have a 353 - it isn't that much lighter, and is much lower quality.

I sold my best running Stihl 025 to a friend last week He's crazy about it. That one was outfitted with low profile Picco chain and a 16" bar. I sold it a;long with two spare chains only because I have a pair of 026 PROs on board that I like a tad better. I explained that I would buy it back for exactly what he paid for it and if I post here what I sold it for, you guys will give me raspberries all night.

Hey Mikey. I see you're in Highland Lakes.....I'm Jim, the guy on Rte 94 in town that does chainsaw carvings. I have 4 ms250's all set up with different bar/chain combos. Most are running 1/4" chain. If you want to test one out before you buy feel free to stop in when I'm open. They are great durable saws with plenty of power for their size. In my experience these saws are more durable and long lived than many "pro" saws. I beat the heck out of them when carving and they just keep going.

Not true. The MS251 has been out since 2013. The MS 250 will still be in production in 2016.

I sold 2 for $150 each. No way I would pay $300 for one JMO. $200- $229 should be their cost new IMO.

One of them I sold for 150.
