I swear my eyes are magnets when it comes to running a chainsaw.. I have crawled to the truck several times to look in the mirror to remove chunks of sawdust out of my eyes.. Back in the 80's I cut pulp wood and of course no one on the crew had any sort of eye protection .. (Or chaps ) I would wear my sunglasses to help keep the mess out of my eyes.. I just dont see how so many saw men can run a saw all day with no glasses or face shield .. Sometimes I wear both if the wind is bad.. Just this evening I had a knot about 3 inches in dia I had to trim.. I figured for the 5-6 seconds it was gonna take I could get by with out my glasses on.. Oh heck no.. Not half way through the cut a shaving 3/8 long went square into my left eye.. Off to the truck mirror I went...

I never did until I was installing a hitch on a truck and a tiny metal shaving got in my eye. I didn't know it at the time but everyday after my eye would all the sudden start hurting and break out running water. I went to the eye doctor which sent me to a specialist who used his drill to remove it. For anyone who hasn't had the pleasure trust me safety first.

Kind of over rated. I ruined my favorite pair of safety glasses on an ash branch that decided to prove a point. Eyes both turned black and blue the next day. The scar on the left on my forehead is from 2 minutes before I decided that maybe just maybe I should wear a hardhat at work. Might as well add the pic of my bodywork I did on my hand when a little fire got out of hand (pun intended) My wife has upped my Life Insurance this year.

Ouch! What happened to your fingernails?

Glasses and wire shield all the time. Glasses are habit from work where OSHA gets upset if you aren't wearing them.

i use a face screen normally. yes it takes getting used too!!
safety glasses during windy days!

I ALWAYS wear them when using any power tool. Even a wire brush and hand tools that flick stuff.
I have has them save both my eyes when a steel swarf spiral from a column drill flicked up and ran over the glasses, cutting into the plastic. It would have sliced both my eyes open without them.

I worked with a fella who had to wear safety glasses all day at work, same as me, and one day he pulled his truck up on the side of the road just outside the worksite main gate so he could get out and check the load without needing his safety glasses etc.
He cut a cable tie off a support clamp to get it ready to be removed when he got on site, and the cable tie sprung up and popped his eyeball open. He now has only one eye.

Glasses and earplugs when ever using a saw, mower or weedeater (we call them wipper snippers here in Aus)
