Oh yeah, I wouldn't want have to track down top ends for them. I have several variations of the XXV & the 2300, but have no experience with the early ones.
Flew under the radar on evilbay 18 months ago.

.I'll go you one better. On eBay I found a 2300 (re-badged as a Craftsman), very clean, with a (new?) bar that showed no sign of being used, with a chain that just needed some light filing. Opening bid .99, shipping 18.00. I bid $5.00 just for the heck of it.
I got it for $19.00 total. Has spark, and the piston still has the machining marks looking through the exhaust. A very low hours saws is my guess. Downside--It did need new fuel lines.
Edit--I like the design on the Super XXV CV, you don't have to remove the entire side cover to get to the chain.
They're fun to collect. Cheap to acquire. Usually just need fuel system overhauls to get running. Perform well for what they are. And the coolest part....

+1 on the XX. Carb refuses to co operate. Sits in his box.
Just don't know how bid a pine tree stump is till ya dig it out, that puppy is heaaaavvvvy.

Good Job! I started a project just like that several years ago. Got two old power poles laid across for the main support, and got a bunch of oak logs ready to mill planks out of, and thats where it stopped.
Just havn't got around to milling them yet. Maybe some day! Gregg,

Not sure why your having issues with a XX carb. Plain ole reliable Tilly HU or some had (mostly Sears?)Walbro WA carbs. Fixed HS on both.
