Still burning

I had a small fire going last week three or four times.
I've been on the road all this week, but I talked to the wife last night. She said she turned the furnace on once for about 5 or 10 minutes Tuesday morning... the gas furnace  I think we're most likely done burning... mostly all 60s and 70s in the forecast.
I burned close to 6 cord total I'd guess.

Still burning here. Not 24/7 but a fire or two most days. We are supposed to hit 70's this weekend. We saw those temps on Easter and I thought I was done burning but not so. I've burned a little under five cords. That's a full cord+ less than normal. It has been a mild heating season but I attribute my reduced wood usage mostly to having 100% really dry wood. I also brought wood into the garage. I made room for a little over two cords inside

This year I didn't burn a stick that hasn't been CS&S for at least two years. What a difference in heat output. I never had the damper open more than half way and I could shut it down much more quickly with no smoke. I'm getting higher stovetop temps, faster, and with less primary air. This contributes to longer burn time.

Of course there was a bit of a learning curve. A couple times I hit 800 degree stove temps. Let's just say I was literally and figuratively sweating while waiting for the stove temp to come down.

Still burning here but only at night. Switched over to the ugly pile at the start of the month. Probably burned a full 25% less wood than the previous year.

Same. Have about 500 cords in logs ready to be processed into firewood and lumber at the shop and a 120 acre clear cut for this summer, plus wrapping up the 100 acres we are on right now.

Not sure if my chimney is plugging up or what but it back drafted bad last week, to the point I had to throw water in the stove to put it out.
It's been fine since, but the draft is pretty weak at 40ish.

My ribs are healing from the chest tubes I had so I don't have quite The strength to clean it.

I've been lighting at night and in the morning. Don't feel like getting up in the middle of the night to keep it going. Don't need it going during the day either. I think in the next few days I won't need to light at all,,I hope. I have a weak draft at 40 also. The wood has to be really dry and small pieces are best.

Yes it's hard to get the draft going at that temp. I use small cuts.

Same here.

I'm heating 2500 sqft with a wood stove, though.

Good thing about that is the chimney stays clean!

My house is about 1400. Pretty Std 3 bed 2 bath ranch.

If you had a Blaze King I bet you'd only have burned 4 cords or so.

I love the idea, and I wouldn't have a problem with the blaze king. Wife isn't having anything to do with it. They look, to her, to "archaic". That and our stove arrangement has all 4 sides visible.

I'm leaning towards a larger hearthstone stove. I like the fact that the backs are finished on them. Yeah I'm not getting any catalytic action, but that's the trade off.

Does she cut the firewood? I'd tell to to hell with the "looks" (maybe why I'm not married haha!)
I dunno, I think my stove looks fine. It's not "pretty" but neither is the fridge or dishwasher.

I burn a mix of spruce, poplar (cottonwood and aspen), and birch.
