Dolmar 7900 WOOOOO HOOOOO :):)

Well i fired up the 7900 today for the first time and all i can say is WOW...Smooth a silk and seems to have a crapload of torque...I havent owned anything over like 60cc so i am unsure if all 80cc saws run like this or not but i buried a 24" bar all the way in a frozen hard maple and it just ate and ate and ate....LOVE this thing and cant wait to use it sunday

Open up the muffler and it will run even better.. That is not an 80 cc saw. If the 361 guys can call their saws a 50 cc class saw.Shouldn't the 79 cc dolmar be a 70 cc class sized saw?LOL

on the muffler, remove muffler. reach in with a 3/8 socket extension, and beat teh back baffle away from the muffler inlet.

then still the exit hole on the muffler out to 7/8 or 1 inch or something huge.

removing the baffle inside entirely brings on other problems I haven't figured out yet.

I would disasseble the muffler

and cut the baffle out. and re use the flat plate.

It will not let me edit the miss spelled dissasemble

Yes it is.. I have cut probably 35 truckloads of wood

and I have yet to even come close to being in the cut long enough to set a piece of wood on fire. I have cut Doughty sassafras too. That saw will cut through a 22 inch piece of dead hickory in under 20 seconds.Hardly long enough in one spot to start a fire. It is slightly angled but for the most part, yes aimed at the log.

Good to hear Robby.. Happy cutting with "Bad Bob" PS7900 try it for a while before you go cuttin the muffler open Im sure you will be happy with it in stock form... Most are...

to each their own on the muffler, but I don't think cutting the bulk of the center piece does anything.

I think leaving it in there, and opening the far end with a hammer does as much as cutting the center baffle out, looks better, and is a LOT easier.

I got a great deal on it so i got it....I may get a 20" bar for it also as its way lighter then i thought it would be and i may use it for more then just blocking...

It is indeed useful for more than just blocking. I'd be willing to bet that it will end up as your all-around saw for everything except smaller limbing and trimming. It is a nice and nimble saw with a 20" bar!

Between the 7900 and a good 40-50cc limbing saw you will be set for pretty much anything that even the unusually busy recreational woodcutter will encounter. My 7900 and 026Pro are the two saws that see the most use and get tossed in the Jeep whenever cutting is anticipated. A combination like a 7900 (20" and 28") and a 401 (14", & muffler modded) would be a heck of a combination for the guy who handles his own firewood, some trimming around the house, and the occasional bit of storm cleanup and chop-and-flop removals for friends and family.

Congrats on your purchase. You bought a fine machine and I have no doubt that you'll truly enjoy that new saw of yours!

You damn skippy. For the last 2 weeks I've been cutting frozen red oak from 16-32" dbh and my 79 eats it up stock dude. It's never more than like 12-15 seconds a cut I'd say... I'm not sure how or why you'd wanna cut any faster??? If your in more of a rush I think the only thing out there that'd cut faster would be a skidder with the big cutters on it, don't know what they are called, I think a grapple...
