Well, I got a new 372XP last weekend, and this weekend I put her to the test. I had a lot of oak I wanted to block, mostly in 21" lengths with diameters of 18" to 24".

I ran about 5 tanks through her on Saturday. 1st tank I was saying: "Cool". the 5th tank it was: "Wow".

Sunday another 5 tanks. She was cutting great. I ran out of mix about 15 minutes before I was ready to stop. I decided to stop a little short on gas, making it about a 40:1 mix instead of 50:1. She must have liked it. At this point the saw was acting like she was mad at the wood. So I was just hanging on and letting her eat.

Some lessons learned:

1. There is life after Stihl and it's spelled Husky.

2. The trick to blocking is to get the noodles out of the wood.

3. I really like the Oregon LGX. I've always had trouble filing my Stihl "safety" chain, but the LGX was no problem. My 6 year old was helping me late Sunday as I cleaned up the saw. He wanted to file the chain. Now, a 6 year old may not be able to hold 30 degrees, but he understood the "witness" mark. He did a pretty good job. PS: Moderator, would you please block my 6 year old from the Tradin' Post?

4. My back felt the weight of the saw, but my hands felt no vibration. This may well be the biggest safety feature of this saw.

5. I found the saw easy to remove panels to do basic clean up.

6. My neighbor really doesn't like my new saw. Or maybe it's my "Chainsaws don't kill people" bumper sticker.

7. Big thanks to site sponsor Tony for making it happen.

That's a full report from the woods behind my house,

Jack, the Happy HomeOwner

if you think that 372 is mad at the wood you should try a 7900 with a 20" bar and a full chisel chain :)

Well, it was on my short list. The dealer issues / parts availablility scared me. If I had saws-a-plenty like many here, that would have been the way to go. I don't have the disease although I've been exposed now.

Regardless, the 372  is a keeper.

Ya i was goin to get a 372 also but i fell in love with the 7900..and i have many dealers close by but i dont forsee needing much any time soon..

I have a dealer that I drive by 2 times a day. The problem is that the owner works another full-time job and it's been hard to talk with him. When I have a pocket full of money and it's hard to find him, I can only imagine what it would be like after purchase.

I also could not get an answer on the type of bar and chain I'd be getting with the 7900. I had decided to buy the 7900 powerhead only from the local dealer and get the bar/chain from a site sponsor. When I couldn't get the shop owner again, I took it as a sign. Then I saw a post about an old/original 372XP being available and Tony took it from there.

i dont understand what everyone needs from there dealers? I mean order a spare plug and a filter and you should be set unless you drop something on it...and yes buying bars and chains other then what comes with it is a good idea...

Just curious, what bar and chain setup is on it?

-...and I am also waiting for the snow to clear, to get more time on mine.....

joatmon, I ran my new 365 Special yesterday for the first time. I feel the same way about my 365 as you do with your 372, especially the vibration part.....there just aren't any! Congratulations on you new 372! :D

I'm using the Husky 24" bar with Oregon LGX chain. A 24" seems to work very well for what I'm cutting at the moment.

I originally though I'd get a 20" bar later on. Now, I'm not sure. She pulled the 24 with authority. It is a little nose heavy. When you lay her down, the nose wants to land first.

FWIW, the oak I'm cutting has been on the ground for some time and was quite dirty. I though the chain would go quickly, but not so. I touched it up after 4 or 5 tanks but it wasn't because it stopped cutting good. It also seemed to be very easy to hand file. The witness marks are great, even for a 6 year old.;)

I agree about the vibes, my 372 feels like the smoothest saw I have ever used, but even though you don't feel them, some vibes are there...........

:) :greenchainsaw:

Thanks. And congratulations on you new 365! I guess we're cousins or some such thing.

The only vibes I felt were in my feet as the faithful 372 lay next to my side idling, just begging to be picked up and layed into the wood.:)

SawTroll,

Thanks for your post. We've bantered a bit, but your 372 purchase (gift;) ) helped push me to the Husky camp. You confirmed that the 372 "met spec".

I can testify that "in the hand" and "in the wood", it acts like a drunken termite.

Happy cuttin',

Jack

The 20" bar I have give close to perfect balance - as you said, it is nose heavy with a 24" one, but not bad at all, really........:)

I will definately use the 20" bar most of the time, but my wood is smaller than yours........

ST,

You tried the LGX? You're big on the Stihl chain, right?

Joatmon,

Now that she is broke in, take her apart and start grinding. Nothing like a woods ports to make you drool even more!

372

I just got one too I have 20 inch bar and chain and it balances well it cuts very fast and im happy with it low vibs and good power to weight ratio if i cut bigger wood i would have gone with 24 inch bar or 32 maybe but now id love to get a 16 inch bar for it that would cut insane fast for bucking
