"Here was the post"
- I have started to wonder if they are going to "jump over" a generation with the 70cc and up saws, and the 572, 590 etc never will hit the market?
Dan
I did read this post oddly enough a few days ago somewhere way out of the way.
Current models are selling well, let them test on

As I understand it, the 390 is about the "standard saw" on the US West coast at the moment, with some 395s (a much older design) in the mix - due to the failure of the 661 and 461 in that environment.
The 390 is pretty dominant in BC
I've been on small crews with all 390's
But there is the loyal stihl guys. It changes by crews.
Many guys have 660 &461
If the 461 is ported properly and tweaked out to the max with anti vib full wrap equipped with square chisel then IMO, its the best saw on the market. It's far from a failure? That's ludicrous! The 390 retired the 395 10 years ago here. Now "Junkman" will tell you ever faller he knows in Northwest Washington runs stihl. I know a lot do as well a lot in the Alaskan pan. It's the same crowd. I've cut there. As far as Axeman goes Pfffff
All I've ever seen them cut is 2nd & 3 rd growth fir. Not to say some guys aren't 'west coast' fallers but that doesn't qualify anyone to be a 'west coast' faller. Many contractors and unions want certain timber type experience and time length.
It be far from 390 ground. There is falling on the west coast & there is 'west coast'falling. Much of the second growth will be much larger on residential because the trees won't be competing for crown competition as well all the best soil and nutrients wash down.

It isn't just what has been posted on here - if you looked at "Axe-men" over some time, most saws were MS660 some years ago, now they almost exclusively are 390xp. Any Stihl saw is a rarity with the PNW crews.
That's pretty Chunky soup to swallow.
I'm sure it holdsvtrue in areas but to believe it's a rarity, one might ask one if they believed in leprechauns

That does of course not encourage Husky to change their model line-up, when it isn't needed vs. the EPA.
We just make pretty poster boys in the PNW with slogans like
Husqvarna
"Made for professionals
By professionals"
They don't care about us
If they cared about us then it would have been made as the 585 years ago.
I think they are into practical jokes.
They have one saw that is suitable in stock form to cut true 'west coast first growth maybe the 576 too. I never even warmed up to either.even in the ported form.
We are not going to be banging the dust of no 395's either.
We are like the generation Xers of the west coast to them. Too little to please.
He is misinformed about EPA on many fronts
Stihl got a new Saw? Can you be sure of this?
