I have been doing utility arb on powerline clearance for the past 18years, I started out as a groundie, worked my way up to a climbing now firmly on the ground again. I am currently in hospital having a partial knee replacement. I was just wondering what price your own bodies have paid to be in the chainsawing game? (it sure does take it out on the human body, at 49, I am the youngest on the ward !) I am now looking forward to getting home and carrying on with my latest 441 rebuild whilst I recover ! Ps if any of you guys have gone through what I have just experienced, I take my hat off to you!

Carpal tunnel for sure! It aint saws that wreck you it is motorcycles! Ticks will destroy you too!

Used my left knee as long as possible. When I had total replacement, could tell immediately it was good, walked on it same day. All I can say is it will get to feeling better with each passing day. Hope you are doing well.

Cheers buddy, thanks for the kind words! A complete knee is what I was lined up for but my consultant said I would get by on a partial. I am up and about on it but it hurts like hell !

My uncle fell timber here for 20 years as a contractor and he said dirt bikes got him more injuries than working in the woods ever did. My dad said the same thing, and both those guys worked the glory days of big timber in the woods

(late 60's to the early 90's).

You aint kidding the worst was when I got cabled at night! Im still looking for that dude!

i have been fortunate not to have had any replacement parts on my body yet....my right hip has been giving me trouble for a while now.. i worked in the woods when i was a kid then did residential climbing for a long time my joints are all beat up. im 50 and my latest work has been for the railroad which means i walk in balast rock all shift long and it is rappidly taking more of a toll than running a saw although im sure the hard work for my whole life is the real reason....no one thing but the sum of it all.

I hope you're hanging in there
Welshman? speedy recovery from the south. Good Idea for a thread. I have thought about doing this topic in the past.

I have much to add but it will take a while.

I will take you from laughing to crying.

I could contribute everything bad to chainsaw work. Its a life style.

a few std's and had my **** broken in 'reverse cowgirl' position

"I met her in a club down in North Soho Where you drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry cola C-O-L-A cola She walked up to me and she asked me to dance I asked her name and in a dark brown voice she said, "Lola" L-O-L-A "Lola"

my dad seen me in action with the Swedish saws. He told me I’m going to wear myself out. He was right. My body is battered from working hard. I was a gorilla in the woods I thought nothing could stop me. I was better than the energizer bunny, so I thought. I didn’t save anything for retirement.

Hows your lower back?

Hobbyist/DIYer here. Even as a lawyer, Chainsaws and other tools have battered my hands and knuckles for about 46years starting with my first summer job after high school as a mason's helper. I've bled from sharpening wo gloves enough to wonder why I'm so stupid.

At 64 my hands are always mildly sore (keyboard adds to the pain - but not the scars and gnarled knuckles on my right index finger).

Still, I would rather hurt in my shop than be pain free in my office.

15 years working on heavy trucks and trailers has taken its toll. Plus dirt bikes, 3 wheelers and the time a 20" bar on a stihl 038 found my knee. Still upright and breathing though! Changed career focus a bit, working on rental equipment now, but I foresee 2 new knees before I'm 50. I'm 35, btw.

In the club brother!

Gotta agree on the motorcycles. Broken leg, busted knee, dislocated wrist, etc. And then there was that time the truck fell on me.
A few crooked fingers from football.

Chainsaws haven't been a big wear on me yet.
Of course I mostly use the smallest saw for the job, and haven't spent extensive time climbing.
