So I bought the red ring compression kit. I can get the first ring to slide in but it keeps hanging up on the 2nd ring and won’t go in. Any tricks to this??

Keep that ring compressor tight to the cylinder as you press the piston in. Sounds like it might be lifted just enough to allow the ring to slip into the gap between the two and expand.

Keep trying - you'll get it.

I start from the back of the ring first, make sure that is in the slot, and then bring the front sides around and in. You have to be careful. It's easy to snap the ring in half, but it's been awhile since I did that -- about six years. I do not own a ring compressor. Patience is next to godliness.

Well the 2nd ring is going in but it’s like it’s getting hung up on the bevel before it meets the smooth part kf the cyl.

Whoops! I just read the first post by OP again. It could be that he's working top down and installing the top ring first before trying to install the lower ring. So, the top ring tends to block the installation of the lower ring. OP, is that right?

Both of the rings are on the piston and the piston is attached to the rod. I’ve been trying to slide the cyl down over the piston. The top ring slides in fine, then when it reaches the second ring, it slides partly over the ring, the skirts are over the ring about 1/16 but you can still see the ring where the skirting isn’t at. And it won’t go in any further. I finally gave up after 2 hours of trying to get it all the way on. Will try again tomorrow when I’m not so frustrated

Is the bottom ring upside down?
