A while back I purchased a 181se I didn’t run or inspect it. The guy who sold it to me must be laughing all the way to the bank. We dug it out today and found it very hard to start. Even with a c/r it’s hard to turn over. We pulled the starter first, the pulley is ok the pull start works freely. The flywheel barely turns over. We checked the cylinder bore through the sparkplug hole and it all looks great. We went and pulled the clutch cover and brake. I found the brake band not retracting fully so it had been dragging on the clutch. Ah one thing fixed. Put it all back together the carb/ trigger don’t feel right, she starts up runs fine on idle but won’t rev up. Pull the top cover and air filter the throttle linkage was there but not hooked up. In a few minutes we had this beast running perfect. These 181se/288xp series saws are 266’s on steroids.
I realize there wasn’t c/r on the early 181se? I can’t find a letter on what size the cylinder is on top of the cylinder. I have a gut feeling the cylinder/piston has been replaced with a am kit. Are the am kits marked anywhere? Are the oem cylinders marked besides on top of the cylinder. It runs and sounds awesome I’m not touching it.
Sometimes I can find a acorn too besides a squirrel.
