Never asked for anyone to get banned, never even reported a post, despite some pretty F'ed up stuff.

Normally I ignore Bill, he has the not singular privilege to be on my ignore list, But when he responds to a direct question and is utterly F'ing wrong... its hard not to call him out for what he is.
I feel the same way about your ignorant comments

Back on the logging theme, what fire season requirements would be put in place for say, an electric powered yarder? The carriage might still spew sparks while flying down the skyline. Tailblocks and cornerblocks would still have to have clearing around them. Would "landing voices" become a thing of the past? The whistle would still blow out your eardrums so earplugs wouldn't be done away with.

Would there be more rules or less rules? It's interesting to ponder.

Have you been to places that have wind farms? Wind River for example, is called wind river, because the wind simply doesn't stop, the Ellensburg wind farm is very similar only smaller.
Some of the wind mills maybe stopped and not turning, however, thats becuase they have been shut down to reduce wear as at the moment they are not needed, same thing happens in most power stations, not every generator is running 24-7, if they are... then its simply not an adequate system (cough "texas" cough)
I laugh at those who have commented about the Midwest and lack of support for wind energy. Here is May 2022 ranking.
https://www.chooseenergy.com/data-center/wind-generation-by-state/
Looks like
1. Texas
2.Oklahoma (just overtook Iowa)
3.Iowa
4. Kansas
5. Illinois

So what fire restrictions would still be kept for electric powered logging? What restrictions would be added?

Where would the equipment recharge?

How will we be able to locate the fallers if they are using electric saws?

Will extra security be needed?

I love those that talk about "free energy". It does not exist
Yes it does. The wind and the sun are free when I hang my laundry out. The sun is free to recharge my solar lights.

And I quoted your post trying to get this thread back on track. It was originally about logging and electric equipment. Oh, and because I wanted to.

Are you in the logging industry or forestry? If not, why are you commenting here?

Those might be too slow. I am thinking of the guys from the south who were hired to shovel snow at the base of trees so the fallers could fall the trees and meet stump height requirements.

They made burritos on site and started selling and trading them to the hungry loggers. They used a gas stove and cast iron pan.

Tree planting crews did the same thing, 'cept there was only us out there and we only slobbered over their meal. They'd send a guy up to the road to start it cooking and then hike up when it was ready. Beans, Rotel or tomatoes and chiles, meat and tortillas. It don't get much better.

You tried to call me out on wind power and were proven wrong.

Your clothes line, clothes pins, solar lights cost money to build and money to purchase They required fossil fuels to be built. What material is your solar light made from? I am betting plastic. What is a major ingredient in plastic...petroleum. How about your clothesline? I sit nylon. Your clothes pins?

Not such thing as free energy.

Let's change the subject back to the original please. Settle differences OFF this website that constructive discussion can continue.
I want to bring up a point that is not being discussed by anyone, concerning the efficiency of Solar Panels. Look it up and you will find that ALL of the millions of panels that China has dumped on our market HAVE AN EFFICIENCY OF ONLY 15-18%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is stupid beyond belief. It is about the same as having a car that gets 2 mpg. And EVERYONE, especially the government has been eating up this crap because they have failed to educate themselves.
NASA sends solar panels to outer space. And due to this stupid problem they funded a scientist who invented and developed a "manufacturing viable" solar panel that is 50% efficient! And he and others say that 100% efficiency IS POSSIBLE.
NASA sent me the two patent numbers for the panels: 9,117,948 and 9,418,844
Once again the Capitalism has SNUFFED the best, correct solution by taking the least path of resistance, the most dumbed-down approach and has screwed all US citizens who bought the crappy Chinee panels.
Instead of arguing, we should find a way to reveal this cheating scandal and force America to do the right thing instead of making as much money as possible.

You don't camp much, do ya. We do not need a clothesline, which costs a couple of dollars to buy the line and maybe a staple or fastener. We can fling wet clothing on tree limbs, brush, a nearby fence, car mirrors, kayak racks, ... The sun is free, the brush and tree limbs are there. Just a warning. Barb wire can leave a rust stain on fabrics. Don't need no stinkin' clothes pins. Clothes and towels are flung over a tree limb or over a stout shrub, or spread out on a warm, sunny rock. Outdoorsy people know all about this.

Hey Bill, why do you only think in absolutes? Do you really think we are out to do away with all plastics and stuff and never ever use them? It's not about that, it's about doing what we can and figuring out what alternatives are out there. Yeah, my solar light is plastic, what about it? I paid $12 for it, it gives me good light when I camp, I can recharge it, it flattens to the size of a CD when not in use. It weighs nothing and is a big improvement over a Coleman lantern.

We're headed for a time of transition. There's no getting away from it if you intend to survive comfortably. I'll wait to get an electric car until they have better charging times and stations. And, as someone pointed out, a hybrid car would be best in my area, if I were to get one. Meanwhile, the Toyota is for hauling stuff or going out of town, the Ebike is for local stuff and getting regular sized groceries or going out for a ride in the hills nearby. No, I don't haul my bike for that, I pedal it there. DSC01852.JPG

Don't you have some pigs to feed or something?

And EVERYONE, especially the government has been eating up this crap because they have failed to educate themselves.

The govt entities eat it up because they are in bed with the Chinese, not because they are too stupid. They know exactly what they are doing.
People need to understand that none of this is actually about saving the planet. We been sold out, decades ago, mostly by the people we elect.
To your point about solar panel efficiency. The avg person can't afford the crap that's on the market as it is. $15-20k for solar panels alone (no battery) for a home is beyond the scope of most people. And that price includes the big subsidies we are currently getting which I pray won't be around forever. What would a system cost that was 50,75, 100% efficienct cost? More than the home in many cases.

No I do not camp. You said I do not get out. You were wrong. You criticize literally everything and when called on it you have no answer. Your criticized the Midwest on wind energy and were dead wrong. Now you have no answer. Many things you use that you think are "green" are not. They are built with petroleum

As for feeding pigs not currently. Is that going to be your next insult and line of attack...agriculture?

I mostly agree. However I know that if "good" businesses got involved in building the efficient solar panels, then we could all afford them. And you are dead-on about the current cost for solar panels with No Battery (that is some stupid crap). But also mention that when 99% of the people buy these panels for their homes, they DO NOT PROVIDE 100% power, but a lesser portion and when you tell the seller you want 100% power, they will not sell to you. It is a truly fu*&%$d up industry.

Yes, and in the camping world, there are RVs out there with solar panels and inverters that can even run their airconditioners.

The usual suspects on this forum cannot comprehend that the science is evolving and improving very rapidly. What they have experienced in the past is just that--the past.

I had orchestra last night. We're all acoustic, except I use a battery powered tuner.

Well, the rules will just be added to, I mean the hot air balloon stuff is still in the DNR book, as well as stuff about piloted sky cars... From what I've seen fire shut downs have as much to do with exhaust sparks as the rigging sparking and friction.
There isn't a form of energy on this planet that you won't pay for. Utility rates won't diminish just because a power source changes....you'll aways be paying some greedy prick.
If YOU own the means of production, who you going to pay for it? In fact, our local PUD PAYS YOU if you get a surplus from your system.

First time? Some of these folks have incredibly hard heads...
as for the solar panels, yeah, we could have more efficient panels, however they cost substantially more, so buy a few more cheap chiniesium panels that work and save your self probably 1000's overall, or spend the coin for less panels, but still replace them in 20-30 years when they wear out. Choice is yours.
The other option is to wait a few more years when the market cools off a little, and/or production has met demand and prices/quality stabilize then go in on it, though in reality, I think that time is now.

There isn't a form of energy on this planet that you won't pay for. Utility rates won't diminish just because a power source changes....you'll aways be paying some greedy prick.
You could if you were so inclined, buy an oil well, one that has a lot of natural gas, install your very own crude or NG fired genset, have enough power to power your house, shop, charge a tesla, and still have enough crude oil to then build or purchase a simple refinery and make your very own diesel and gasoline, sell the naptha and excess NG and walk away with a profit after about 10 years, the only thing stopping you is ambition. Hell 2 years ago MFers were practically giving away oil wells.

There are rules yes, but they aren't that hard to follow, have you met the goons that work in the oilfield?
In the words of some very angry young men, "F the G ride, I want the machines that are making them"
I'll repeat myself, the only thing stopping you is your own ambition. Solar, wind tidal are all proven and really simple tech, you can infact build most of it yourself, same thing with oil, its all really simple and readily available parts.
So again, if you own the means of production, who are you going to pay for something you make, you control the source, the method of production and the method of distribution, Who would you need to pay?

If yer feeling real spritely you can drive to Places in Montana and Wyoming, probably Kentucky too take a shovel and wheelbarrow and dig your own coal, fill up a truck with it, no one will probably notice or care. Drive home build a low pressure boiler (its easy) a homemade turbine or piston type engine and start your very own steam plant, granted to be worth a damn, that ones going to need a helluva lot more coal then one pickup load.
