Sean, just put a ratchet chain binder and a short chunk of chain from the back of the winch to your hitch. Tighten it up when you are pulling a load, throw it in the toolbox until the next pull. You don't need anything else in the way.
Right under the decking? Not much. That front channel has a angle welded to it for the boards to set in. There's a crossmember somewhere behind that. Can't remember how far back it is, I think 24".

It has been my understanding that only the line speed is affected by the # of wraps. Pulling power remains the same. I’ve used the hell out of mine under some extreme conditions for a lot of years and have never noticed a change in power.
Pulling power goes down for each wrap on winches. This information is in the owners manual.

Here is one for you guys to laugh at. This is my $50 Husqvarna 440 I just bought. The owner did tell me it needed a tune up. I spent 2 hours cleaning up this saw and changed the spark plug. The saw runs like new now. Blow up the 2nd photo to see the mess in the clutch cover.

You suck…..

Aaaand, those are old stats based on steel cable wrapped with precision.
im just trying to point out that in practice…lots of it…those stats are useless.

You suck…..
I paid him what he was asking for it. The 268 will cost me about $50 dollars to fix up. I got that one for $50 also. I need to replace the clutch cover as the brake is broken and the cover is cracked. The oil pump dirt cover is destroyed.

I stand corrected…you REALLY suck

🤪

I’ve only found 2 like that in probably 20yrs :p
020Super for $5 that need a bar/chain and a 61 Husky that needed a fuel line for $65.
I bought an older Stihl top handle saw a few years ago for $20. The guy said it won't start. I gave him the $20. While walking away I pushed in the choke, pulled the throttle and cranked it 4x. The saw fired right up. The guy yells hey at me. I turned and asked him what. He was so pissed. I don't start them anymore in front of the owner if they say it doesn't run. I wait until I get home.

Guess I should state my reason for such a large winch. So one of the things winch makers don't like to tell you is the rating given is with 1 wrap in the drum. Most winches have 3 to 4 wraps on the drum and each layer takes away from the maximum pulling power. 90%+ of people will never go more then 2 wraps deep on a winch. Which means your 8k winch is only good for about 4k at wrap 3 and wrap 4 isn't worth mentioning. But just double it over.... I'm lazy and don't have time for that. More often then I'd like to admit I've had the 12k winch doubled or trippled over to get something on my deck over with 2 wraps on the drum. Don't have time to play with a little winch. So (like normal) I just went over kill knowing I shouldn't really need the full force of the winch, except for those rare occasions.
There is a lot of information instantly available on the internet on this subject. Having owned and worked in this field for 30 years I recommend educating yourself on the various facts and opinions and see how they vary. Not going to contradict anyone's opinion here. I strongly encourage adding chokers and a snatch block to your kit. Not all pulls are straight-line possible. Power is not always the answer.

I carry 150’ of extension lines…Amsteel…several 30k# straps, a 1.25” snatch rope, 2 blocks and an assortment of 3/4 and 1” shackles in my recovery box. Only once have I used it all…Dale’s recovery…pictured.

Hi guys, they’re expecting 25 below here plus high winds overnight. A couple of the school districts have canceled classes, but ours has not. I’m going to work regardless.
Was -25 here few days ago, 10 this morning, much better. Stay warm, I don’t like the wind especially when it’s cold.

Went out to look for woofs and see if any deer and elk have lost any horns yet today. Saw lots of tracks but nothing to shoot at
