Guy used to work with bought a new 2011 ecoboost f-150 with the super dooper max tow package. 28 foot bumper hitch camper. It pulled it, but not fast. Had lots of rear suspension issues. Snapped an axle in the rear. They gave him a loaner f250 with the 6.2L engine. I don't think he wanted to give it back besides the poor fuel economy.I've had disagreements with owners of new 150/1500s about this...the official tow rating of these newer 1/2 tons are approaching the rating(in some rare cases, exceeding it) of my 15 year old diesel Dodge. I still contend, that between the heavier frame, larger running gear, greater power, and longer wheelbase(CCLB), that my older Dodge is still a much better tow vehicle for loads approaching the official rating. Not to mention that it's got an exhaust brake that works well enough to relegate the brakes to stopping and really steep grades.
I do think the math on this gets fuzzier the older the vehicle. My old man has a 95 F250 with the 460/5 speed. It's still a great pick up and has served him well, but it's just less "HD" in almost every way compared to the Super duty that replaced it or my Dodge.
Having said that, I'll keep my old junk. It hauls and tows just fine. Most don't use a truck for a truck anyway these days...

Last batch I got off evilbay was 5 for $90.00Fee Bay , yea I was kinda surprised myself, but made the offer , and was accepted
I had to look. The msd street fighters are in it.. the acels coils are in a box I dug out today by chance. Can't remember why I took them out.I don't dri
Very the excursion in the winter unless I'm making some cash with it, no reason to trash a nice ride with all the sand/salt they put on the rds here.
I need to order some plugs and coils too, been meaning to ask Mike and Sean what brand they use. Mike seemed highly pleased with the high performance ones he got, so those sound great, mainly get .025 better fuel economy too . I think it's worth trying the plugs and coils before even hooking it to my buddies snap-on scanner, I'd have to spend 30 in fuel just to get there and back.
3 maybe 4 pulls from cold and it's running. 1 pull hot starts. It does take 8-10 tanks to break in. The green chain just sucks... it's hanging on the wall with the 20" bar lol.Gave the Ms400 it first run. Laid into noodling the pile of chunks that have been accumulating for around 20 years. Not impressed.
1. Safety chain is not a good choice for noodling. I did buy a 25" skip tooth for it when I bought it. Safety chain will shortly reside in the trash can.
2. Takes waaayyy to many pulls to start cold. Book says "put on Start and pull until it starts". I had to take a short breather from pulling. Started after around 3 more pulls
3. Best warm start I got was 3 pulls. Once many pulls.
I hope that improves with use!!!
I do like the "Light Bar" that comes on it
