Scrounging Firewood (and other stuff)

It will take bigger stuff too. This one was right at 6"s and 27 feet long.

Boy I could use that for a few days around here!

A few years back I was able to borrow one a bit bigger than that from the brother of a guy I worked with. Only problem is it took me about a weeks worth of spare time to rebuild the fuel pump and carburetor and ignition system to get it to run. That one had an old V-4 Wisconsin engine.

Probably put 10 times as many hours working on it as actually using it!

Was up at the Cabin this WE with both my daughters, so I'm way behind on this thread, but despite all the rain, we had good food, cleared the paths of blow downs, shot guns, cut Black Cherry firewood (using a zip line to get it down to the driveway), rode ATVs and visited with a neighbor.

The neighbor has lots of great trail cam pics this Spring, including two large Black Bear messing with each other, a Mother Bear with 3 cubs, a huge Turkey, numerous Coyote and some deer.

I love my 2.7 twin turbo. I usually have about 7-800 pounds of stuff in the back and get 19.5-21.5 on the highway. Long flat trips I’ll hit 24. Going from my house in MD to my place in WV I’ll get about 2 mpg less going, 19 range, and 2 mpg better coming home, 21 range. Elevation at home is 268‘ above sea level, and 1577‘ in WV. Funny how that little bit over 120 miles makes that much difference. Towing my tandem dump trailer it drops to 13-16 mpg. My old 99 360 Ram got 16 mpg on a good day, towing the trailer it dropped to 8-9 mpg.

Yep, I know a few people with that setup and they love it. The real fun comes with the 3.5 and the 10 speed in my buddies truck that’s livernois tuned with 3.55s. Crazy how fast that is for a 4 door truck. If I were interested in an f150 I’d probably take the 5.0 coyote personally. That won’t ever happen though as I’ll never buy another American vehicle. I’ve had a few good chevys and fords but after 3 pos mopars I’m done. Left the last mopar pile at the yota dealership and I’ll never go back. Never thought I’d buy a foreign vehicle but I know now I won’t go back. The japs do it right, regardless of where they’re built. My 4Runner was the only one actually built in Japan but all the others have been absolutely rock solid too.

Only because I took the pictures!

Don't get me wrong, they were GREAT help, but they only got involved after I cut the fallen tree into rounds and set up and tested the zip line.

Was really glad to have them there, they were a great help, and I was not looking forward to finishing it by myself. My younger daughter helped hold the bag open while I loaded the rounds into it, and my older daughter dumped them out at the end of the zip line so we could haul the bag back up.

We all then loaded up the trailer.

No, the wood is going down the hill to my dirt driveway. We just pull the bag back up the hill to re-load it. Because the tree split when it fell, we could not roll a lot of the rounds down.

That was my original plan, but the disc brake 14s (I think they're AAMs now) are cheap and plentiful. Except for the low-hanging pumpkin, they're better axles than the Dana 60 too IMO.

Good morning fellas. It was a busy weekend here. We had my youngest son's 4th birthday party and we cleaned up some of the mess where I dropped the trees last weekend.

It's easier to get the kids to help pick up branches when there's fire involved.

Don't know if I'll bring any home, but plan to fell, buck up 3 tomorrow at the church. Taken ng the 850 with a 24 on it , a 700, an 034 and a craftoulanroper just because it's fun to run. I desaftyfied the chain on it so maybe I can get something done with it now. When you run full chisel real deal chain as a rule and then grab a saw with a safety chain on it it drives a fella crazy. I can't bring myself to pitch them so I grind the tabs off.
The 850 will be interesting with the 24". It's had a 32" on it since I put it together. It cuts great with the 32". Bet it will scream with a 24". Mark found me a new roller tip so she'll be wearing the 32" again soon.
