ANy of you guys have problems with condensation on tools or other rustables, with heating only when you are working in the shop?

A concern of mine as well. I have a fully insulated stick built 24' x 32' shop that I considered putting a woodstove in but decided against it for this reason. I use a propane space heater when it gets cold enough but thats rare. When I do I only heat the immediate area I working in. A couple years ago I helped my neighbor build a 30' x 40' shop and we installed floor heat. If you're not familiar with these systems its basically a series of water lines in the concrete floor with a boiler and valves. He keeps his shop at 60 deg all winter.

Heat with Barrels

I just recently installed one of the 2 - 55 gallons drum wood stoves. It currently is heating a 36 x 50 garage/shop. I was staining and varishing doors in there this past weekend, and it was around 60 inside and 30 outside.

The stove replaced a LP Gas furnace that was costing quite a bit of cash every year. Now I heat the whole thing for 100 dollars in materials I have invested in the stove and pipe.

One downside it does take up quite a bit of space in one corner of the building (with air space between the walls and stove). But overall very impressed and excited about not having a huge lp bill this winter.

yep.. if not you're living in the desert! I use "topcot" on my wood working equipement, Boeing T9 on hand tools, qay oil on my lathe/mill and scotchbite/oil when I forget:mad:

Well my shop is 65' x 36', and i do heat it with propane in the winter and keep it at 60 degrees. It cost me about 500.00 year, and it is well insulated. I do some forging for my blacksmithing, so im usually plenty warm.

My shop 30 x54 stays nice and toasty all winter long and now with the new stove i wont have to fill it nearly as often.<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd71/timberguy/DSCF0675.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

That setup looks familiar, did you build that this year?

That is a sweet stove! I need to get me one built like that for my shop (outside version of course)

yup...i got an AC 2!!! the woodburner is just a few feet to the right of the AC. got cool air close when it is 100 outside and heat when it is 15. usually use the fan on the AC to push the hot air. can get it up to 70-80 on a really cold day in the shed when the stove in cranking.

just a pic of my saw workbench before i put in my breaker and spinner, you can see a corner of the AC to the right

My two car attached garage

has radiant heat in the slab, along with the rest of the house.. I keep it plenty warm.. Nothing like getting into the truck and it is already warm.
My other shop across the road is 24x32 and I have an LP furnace in there. I used to have a wood stove in there, but I found out I was spending more time starting the fire than doing a little something that I went there to do.

shop is 50X100 20ft inside, jet burner, runs on diesel cheap and warm(as long as its blowing right on you) big fan is AC in summer

Kerosene heater and farts. Don't know which smells worst. Sometimes I'll just torch off some saw gas on the slab.
Honestly, I don't fart, but I do have a heater.

sILlogger - looks like a good setup, but your workbench is way too clean and organized ;).

yea..well that pic was taken a few months ago..ive since put in a chain breaker and spinner and i now have 2x395's & a 575 scattered across them that are gonna get crank bearings. and a basketcase 066 that i'll be building. along with a bunch of other parts and such.
