The spring "roads falling apart" scenario is already well under way so why not...
I'm just happy excursion gets better mileage than the semi lol. Bummer is it won't haul as much.
They are definitely unique, never seen any like them.
Hope mine will be pretty easy to heat, the little shop area should be, I think a heat pump would work well.
I've already put 1.5" of isopoly on the exterior between the gurts. I plan on adding another layer(not sure how thick yet) to the inside of the walls (3.5") on my little shop area. Then I'll build a wall and insulate that with r-13 or 15. For the ceiling I plan on 15" of cellulose. I built vents/chutes with 1" polyiso spaced 1.375" below the roof sheeting. That will add a little better r-factor at the eve than the standard chutes and a couple inches of cellulose, and a good bit better airflow above it than the normal chutes.

Just finished building the wall between the main bay and my little shop area.
Need to do the vents and then I'll be ready to stuff some insulation in the wall and up to the vents(already did insulation between the truss carriers and up to the vents in the pic above).
Got the Japanese scaffolding frame in place and ready to go lol.

until afterwards lol.Swung by my parents place last night, the potholes were terrible, worse I've ever seen them there. When we left there was no-one in front of me like when I came in, I gave the new wheels and tires and the ball joints a good workout, 55mph.

You guys complained about flippy caps in the past, but I've never had a problem with mine until today. I've been working on my 038 and I put on a new tank vent. I was hoping that would do the trick. Went to the log yard to test, but nope, have to keep pumping the throttle to keep it going. Leaking fuel cap wouldn't cause that would it?
To make matters worse, the flippy cap now leaks. Took it off twice to check for debris and saw nothing. I can't believe I damaged it setting on my bench. Do I'll order a couple new ones. Might as well pick up some new fuel filters and hoses as well. I put a new fuel filter on but didn't change the fuel line.

Looks like a lot of fun for sure. Most the GTGs I've gone to in recent yrs are to help others out cutting firewood. It's a good time and you meet lots of great people who enjoy cutting, some like to race too
, but I haven't done any of that in many yrs.
I've had various problems with them in the past, and the present, just realized the oil cap on my 462 was leaking this morning. But most of the problems I've had on them were somewhat self inflicted, not getting the cap on properly or as with this one most likely because the saw/cap is dirty. They aren't the worse design in the world, but they are overly complex, especially compared to a husky flippy cap.
As for the 038, if you have to keep on the throttle, something is wrong. A saw with a plugged vent will usually run fine for a bit, then as negative pressure builds(a vacuum) in the tank they start running like crap until they shut off.
What were the initial symptoms of the saw.
Been a while for me too.
Fun to see restored saws, ‘hot’ saws, trade, meet people, BS, etc.

One of these days I'll have a bit more time for it again, for now it's just one a yr. The guy who's gtg I go to is on another forum, this spring will be his last he told me a couple weeks ago, I think he's 80 something now. I bet we get together there now and then to help him out, that or he moves south closer to his boy, we'll see.
Initially, it started and ran fine. Idled fine. Then when I put it to wood and start the cut, it would stall and start to die after a couple of seconds.
To recap what I've done:
I replaced the fuel filter, but not the line. Ordering one now. I've replaced the gas tank vent and the spark plug (needed a new one). I've kind of inspected the impulse line and it looks OK. I'm going to completely remove it and inspect it.
Thought I'd check the easy stuff before tearing into the carb.
If it has one, have you checked the spark arrestor screen?
I honestly do not know and I probably should have asked my FIL that question before he passed away years ago. It has always been outside since I have been here. The big cooking fireplace has the iron hanger rod that swings in and out of the fireplace.

Sunday there were craters on the NYS Thruway and I-84. Today NY Rte 28 was bad except for the segment they repaved last year. I don't remember the roads ever being this bad mid-winter...
Way too much rain for sure and quick freezes.
