I thinking of buying the Jonsered CS2171 or the Husky 372xp.

I've done many hours cutting with a 372xp and liked it but a local dealer can do the Jonsered for cheaper. I've heard they are similar in character, is this true? and which is best in your opinion? Do they both run best with a 20 inch bar?

My only experience with a Jonsered has been with a mid 90s 2055 Turbo which sounded like a pig with a blocked nose when idling and a baby T-rex with a sore throat when at full revs, but it cut pretty well.

They have the same engine, just slightly different chassis and one is orange and one is red. If the Jonsered is cheaper then by all means get the Jonsered. One may have slightly better antivib, I would buy the smoothest one.

They are the same saw with the main difference being the handle bar angle. (and color)

The 372 can be had with the small filter (like the one in your pic) which is the same setup as the 2171, or the taller HD filter (not available on the 2171).

Same saw, they run the same, it is what you like and feels better in your hands. Some guys like the differant angle, some guys don't.

What is the difference on the chassis? I used to own both. A/V is the same.

I have used both they behave the same in the cut. It comes down to ergonomics and which handle you prefer and which dealer is going to help you out when you need it. I prefer the bent handle and the controls on the husky.

So if the 372xp has the more sensible ergo design with the angled handle that surely means it is a more advanced saw than the Jonsered?

Could someone please explain even briefly why Huskys and Jonsereds are so similar, this may sound dumb but even after years in treework I never really looked into or understood the whole Jonsered/Husky thing.

Thanks

Electrolux bought husqvarna and jonsered. They are assembled in the same factories. elux bought poulan pioneer/partner and many other saw manufacturers. They keep jonsered around because of name recognition and extra dealer support but the saws are essentialy rebadged husqvarnas.

I thought i read somewhere her that they checked the pistons and cylinders and the top 10% were used on jonsered next 80% on huskys
or was that just some bull posted by a straight handle fan?

Why does General motors make the same model in slighty differant names?

To make money from a broader range of client/customers.

It cannot be a more advanced saw if the saw is the exact same saw with a differant handle bar. Ask sawtroll, he explained it some time ago about the straight vs angled handles. It is simply a choice of preference.

Hell, I put a 385 Xp handle on my 2186 when I had one. You can do the same with the 2171/372.

LMAO. Does the top 10% have a differant part number?

That sounds like someone was biased, that made that claim.

I doubt that. I have heard some of the engines have differances and improvements over the husqvarna saws. Jonsered waits till husky proves a saw then they reap the rewards which is very smart. You probably won't see a jred 575 because the bugs are not worked out yet.

Like Freak said, it is a preference thing only. I've run Huskys and Jreds, and I can tell you, in my humble opinion, I consider the Husky angle perhaps the least ergonomic thing in the world. Every time I've had one in my hands, I'm subconciously wanting to bend the &^%$ thing back to where I think it should be. It's not more "advanced" at all.

On the other hand, lots of guys have the complete opposite opinion about it. (SawTroll being one of those Phillistines of note!), so it's merely a preference thing.
