What are some things folks like to see or do at a GTG?

I know play with saws, see faces you may not have seen for a while, meet new faces and put them to names, BBQ, swapping tech and mechanic tips, all that is good stuff. But what are some things that everyone here would like to see and do at one of these events?

Things like tape races, pine cone baseball, climbing, manual splitting comps, hydraulics splitting comps, noodling comps, chains swap comps, standing log roll.

This could be good for any GTG from the left coast to the right and anywhere. in the middle. So bring on the thoughts and ideas. Think of nice, warm, nasty, cold, rainy, all weather conditions that things may be done in also.

How about the highest RPM before it sticks competition??

Might help some of us dealers out in these hard economic times:)

:agree2: I'll enter in the log marking and sitting by the fire categories. And, if it's not already filled up, the one where we all stand around and offer conflicting advice to somebody who stuck their saw.:)
If there's a slow climb event I'd enter that, too.

I thought that GTGs were only about drinking beer, and kicking around saws. And whatever that combination may lead to.

Oh, and The Saw with No Name is willing to be named Kenny for the day if he can meet up with the  Barbie saw.

Drinking beer is always a top event, but draining gas or reversing chains while the owner is not looking usually gets some laughs.

I almost hate to do this but here are a couple of more serious suggestions:

It is good to have a cant or two to make some timed cuts for the sake of comparison. Be sure to have at least one stopwatch to make it a bit more accurate. A solid saw buck is a real asset here.

If the GTG last fall in Reinbeck was any indication, there is not much time available in a day to have room for many "filler" events.

And consider renting a Port-A-Potty unless you are really deep in the woods or want people tracking through your house, etc.

Sounds good. How about det-cord woodsplitting?

There are those black powder things, my dad had one laying or was it lying about. Oh boy, lets get busted for setting fireworks off on the beach! That's a good touristy thing to do. FIREWORKS....YAY! Do they sell fireworks at the casino? Anybody going through Wyoming?:greenchainsaw:

Yes, The Barbie Saw will be there. I need to do some rhinestone maintenance. Maybe start a thread on Modding With Rhinestones.

Kenny eh? Well then I might not show up after all. :monkey:

How bout Sobe bombs? I could give a great class on how to make/use one.

I would think based on our group interests some top ranking activities would be:

  • Drinking Beer
  • Hanging out
  • Showing off Saws
  • Drinking Whiskey
  • Cutting wood
  • Splitting Wood
  • Socializing
  • Trying out Equipment
  • Did I mention Beer
  • Saw racing (stock)
  • Saw Racing Modded

Of course the venue you have to work with will dictate what of those you could do. Might be a neat Idea to get a local equipment dealer or 2 to bring some saws to investigate.

Yep.. I want to try throwing the cable and a bunch of chokers at newbies and then oldguys to see who it quicker:greenchainsaw:

Hey, it's o.k., I saw it on TV

I could bring my big shot. After we tire of setting lines 100 feet up, we can lauch some M80s ;)
