Looks like 9/16 chain.

I have 7-55 and 99 with 9/16 chain, two 549's with 3/4 chain
and one 549 with 404 chain.

That's interesting. I haven't seen any 2-man Macs with chain smaller than 1/2". I've seen 1/2", 9/16", 5/8", and 3/4" chain on 'em. Having one of these beasts set up for .404 would sure make chain replacement easier and cheaper...

Yeah and most likely you wont see them. I meant to put 1/2 chain for the other
549. I was in a hurry to get off the computer.

Pretty sure it is half inch and there is an insert in the manual saying it is Circle F. Manual also says to use a 3/8's file. (Guess I should've read that before I asked. :msp_mad: )

The manual calls for zinc oxide grease but I assume there are other choices?

Would it be a good idea to take the gearbox apart and clean it before adding new grease? And do you add it through the big hole to the left or the smaller hole to the right? I took both plugs out and both had a little tan grease at the end of them but not much other grease was visible (just a little dab in the smaller hole).

Another question. I removed the filter bowl to clean out the varnish but the screen and gasket were pretty well fused into place. I will have to get them out at some point. Any way to do it without destroying them?

But, after reinstalling, there is gas leaking around the bowl and also from the gasket just to the inside. I have it dripping into a pan tonight and we will see what tomorrow brings.

here is my (world famous :D ), hillbilly chain measuring chart. Count the drivers in a 12 inch span to determine your pitch first.

then refer to file size chart below. 9/32 files are near impossible to locate.

1/2 pitch has 12 dl per foot and 9/16 has 11.
